On a more serious note, Collins thinks the Riyadh lineup reflects something dire about both American politics and the bifurcated woke-versus-anti-woke comedy scene. Collins says there’s “a lot of money” behind enticing anti-woke comics to shill for the political project on the right. “I also like money, but I think getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to tell jokes for 10 minutes about ‘airline food is bad’ is actually illustrative of a much larger thing: The stuff that’s getting greenlit is not necessarily popular with the populace. It’s popular with rich people who are sick of being yelled at in the media. They are using some of these people as vehicles for whatever the comedy equivalent of greenwashing is.”

It's the anniversary of the 1927 Raglan byelection won by Labour's Lee Martin, who later became Savage's Min Agriculture 1935-41. Marilyn Waring, the great-granddaughter of the defeated 1927 Reform Party candidate, won the seat for National in 1975 #NZpols

TIL the Australian federal election of 1910 is the only such election brought about by the expiry of the Parliamentary term in what's known as the "effluxion of time" provision, as opposed to the House being dissolved by the G-G. This phrase is officially awesome.

my favorite robert redford story is that mike nichols considered him for dustin hoffman's part in THE GRADUATE. during their conversation nichols asked redford something like, "have you ever struck out with a girl?" and redford's response was basically, "i don't understand the question"
