The electrification and modernisation of the Marchegg line is now complete on both sides of the Austrian - Slovak border. From October 11, cross-border trains will run again, connecting Vienna and Bratislava in under an hour.

The province of Bolzano has decided not to renew its contract with ÖBB to operate the daily return Wien – Bolzano Railjet service. The service will end in December 2026, at which point an hourly local service between Innsbruck and destinations in Südtirol will be introduced.

Services on the new high-speed railway between Novi Sad and Subotica in Serbia are due to start at midday tomorrow! The start of services has been delayed due to issue with the infrastructure.

This should bring the journey time down to approximately 7 hours 30 minutes. Additional connections from Poland to Lithuania are being planned.

LTG Link and PKP Intercity are working together to reduce the journey time of the Warszawa – Vilnius train by approximately one hour from the December timetable change.

From January 15, 2026 the Caledonian Sleeper overnight service between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William will call at Birmingham International, the biggest change to the train’s operation for over 30 years.

Due to the withdrawal of French government subsidies, the Paris – Wien/Berlin Nightjet service will stop running in December, leaving France without any international sleeper trains.

From December, VR will use a refurbished Pendolino train on some Oulu – Helsinki services. The trains will be the first to convey Ekstra Plus class, which will include the option to pre-order at seat meals. The trains will also have a car with a play area for children!

If a train is formed of two sets, the first number is used twice. For example, “101” would be seat 1 in car 1 or 11! Simple…

To make it easier for passengers to find the correct seat, SNCF is to renumber the seats on its TGV trains. From 14 December, each seat will be identified by a three-digit number, the first number indicating the coach, and the second two the seat number.
