This proposal is incompatible with farmers' rights on seeds, and would simply legalize biopiracy by allowing the extension of the scope of patents to native seeds. This will only benefit to patent-holding multinationals, at the expense of European farmers, small seed breeders and agrobiodiversity

Indeed, farmers reject the EU-Mercosur agreement and the unfair competition it will bring to farmers in the EU and in Mercosur countries! But farmers also oppose the proposal to deregulate new genomic techniques, which want to impose patented GMOs without any traceability and labeling

Hundreds of people, including @cicrocevia.bsky.social, took to the streets in Parma over the weekend to protest against the proposed deregulation of new #GMOs (NGTs). They oppose all attempts to remove traceability, labelling, and risk assessment for genetically modified and patented lab organisms.

Minister Lollobrigida demands more info for consumers through labeling but supports NGTs. The proposed new regulation will rather remove requirements to label NGTs, removing consumer choice. Contradiction shows how false "tecnofixes" are really to increase big-agri profit & control! #EUAgriVision

Great to hear Rural Youth Europe underline the importance of fair prices and being able to make a living from farming, as was underlined in yesterdays Youth Policy Dialogue. This must be at the centre of generation renewal if we want farming to be attractive to young people #EUAgriVision

ECVC Youth Policy Dialogue representatives so far disappointed - @christophehansen.bsky.social promises to take youth input seriously but has failed to focus on key consensual priorities so far. Young farmers must be heard and included in the vision, not placated. #EUAgriVision

Hopefully the commitment to supporting youth, women and diversity among farmers are is more evident than in today’s first panel. The Youth Policy Dialogue and Women in Farming Platform must not be siloed but rather lead to structural consultation of these groups in policy spaces #EUAgriVision

The @ec.europa.eu and @christophehansen.bsky.social insists we need “evolution not revolution” - but farmers cannot survive under the current status quo. 3 million farms have been lost. Only real change will protect the 9 million remaining and support new farmers in the sector. #EUAgriVision

However, there was a clear consensus in yesterday’s Youth Policy Dialogue - young farmers across the board need fair prices! @christophehansen.bsky.social seems to be forgetting the central point for young farmers. No fair prices = not earning a living = no farmers!
