Hence why I just feel waiting for the trilogy to be done THEN building books from it may have worked better.

Heck while not exactly the same scenario the best Star Wars tie in books really started after the OT ended with Thrawn Trilogy in 91

Now I do think a ongoing film/series leading up to TFA could in theory have been interesting BUT also they REALLY wanted to strike while the iron was hot on getting Mark, Carrie and Harrison back ASAP. Which in hindsight they did since Carrie past.

In theory I could see that but in practice i sadly don't know if that's feasible. For one thing sadly...Films/TV don't wanna be beholden to books and comics and books and comics kinda have to take directives to whatever the films want. An the Sequels were always in flux.

The Knights of Ren’s absence from THE FORCE AWAKENS and THE LAST JEDI has been explained in the new comic LEGACY OF VADER.

The comic reveals that Snoke cast out the Knights of the Ren. He used Force lightning and stormtroopers to strike them down and force them into retreat.

You even see this with Aftermath being a film before TFA being very limited in it's storytelling compared to the next two which came out after.

See my argument for waiting after is simply because those books and comics would have been very limited by what they could do, because restrictions given on them by the development of the movies. We know they hold off on things to wait for the film/show to do it first.

Just finished Aftermath: Empire's End and I find it funny that some people *cough* TV Tropes *cough* claim Gallius Rax is an expy of Thrawn when, aside from fondness for opera and rank, they are almost completely different characters.

There certainly wasn’t a clamour for ‘in universe history books’ before ‘Rise and Fall’ was announced. I’d have noticed if there was and wouldn’t have been so acutely aware of the massive risk and simultaneous trust that had been put in me for for such a book.

We can never tell what the impacts of new material and art forms are going to be on Star Wars. I don’t recall their being crowds of people calling for ‘Clone Wars’, ‘Rebels’ or ‘Rogue One’ to be made in advance. And look how much better we are for their existence.
