Graphic titled, "What OPP Does". Explains that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. The mission of FERC's Office of Public Participation (OPP) is to empower, promote, and support public voices at FERC. OPP supports the public by helping the public understand the industries FERC regulates and the limits of FERC jurisdiction;
Find the FERC matter that relates to your concern, by docket number;
File a comment, intervene, and participate in a FERC matter;
Determine filing deadlines and understand FERC processes; and
Find documents filed at FERC and previous FERC decisions. Graphic titled, "Contact Us". States that the public may contact OPP for assistance in understanding Commission procedures. Examples include questions on when and how to intervene, comment, file motions, or seek a rehearing. The mission of #OPP is to empower, promote, and support public voices in #FERC proceedings. But what exactly do we do? And just as importantly, what don’t we do?

Knowing the difference can help you understand how OPP can best support your participation in energy matters before the Commission. 💡🔌

In extreme cases, congestion can also lead to emergency calls for the public to conserve energy or even power outages.
fercopp.bsky.social
For example, on a very hot day, congestion may prevent power from flowing along a certain path to residents and business with heavy air conditioning loads. This can in turn cause higher electricity prices, as you may have to call on additional, more expensive resources that can meet the demand.

💡FERC Term of the Week! “Transmission Congestion": Congestion happens when demand for electricity transmission is greater than the physical limits of the transmission grid in an area.
