Every one of you: post at least once a day about some small thing that makes you happy that has nothing to do with politics. This is a hard and fast rule. I won’t be keeping a spreadsheet or anything but if you don’t do it, I’ll know.

I think, for those of us on the political left, we need to address morale as a real and pressing issue that will fuck up our ability to fight if left unaddressed. We *need* to figure out a way to keep people feeling at least minimally good about things even in shitty situations.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Oh well that should be no problem, their messaging has been super clear on shutdown issues.

People on here have been begging Democrats to seize coverage and fight and and and, and this is that. It’s exactly that, and it’s being executed well, and the win conditions are we win the fight, or if we lose, the consequences are very clearly pinned to the GOP.

Yeah I realized later I forgot to put “don’t” on (3).
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Yeah, Johnson is less speaker than Trump’s hype man.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Yep, messed it up. Figure context should make it clear, but ugh.

Right, they don’t need D votes if they don’t want them and I think they probably manage a narrow carve out to do this themselves; even then, I don’t know if there’s 50% all Republican votes in both houses for subsidy extension.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
I guess I mean if they don’t pass a subsidy extension, then the premiums are going to start to skyrocket and people are going to notice and the obvious blame is going to be on the people who fought the subsidy extension.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
They can’t be trusted and they can’t be bothered to pretend they can be trusted and they won’t do anything to negotiate beyond threats and intimidation and lies.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Yep, dammit. Thank you, lol.

I think the trust issue has been underappreciated, and the fact that they simply no longer have the ability to communicate trust, let alone the desire.

Like somehow, on 3, it would be the best of both worlds. People experience a ton of pain that is very very very specifically attributable to Republicans and not to Democrats.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
The thing about this is that:

1) it is a righteous fight on Dems’ favored ground

2) if Republicans cave they did so after already fighting hard against subsidies

3) if Republicans cave, people start to touch a very specific stove that Democrats have been trying to keep them from touching
figgityfigs.bsky.social
I think it’s both, and Democrats reasonably anticipated the predictable response that Republicans would fight them on it.

That’s not necessarily an argument for people to take up arms now, just that this is so plainly contrary to any good faith reading of the country the founders conceived themselves to be founding. That “originalists” condone and support it is a sick joke.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
The founders of this nation, extremely concerned about coercive use of lethal force by a tyrannical government, would look at shit like this and take up arms themselves, and there is no reasonable argument otherwise.

On October 25 we have a cross country meet, a birthday party, a school carnival, a dance performance at the drive in, rocket launches with the cub scouts. With my mom’s help we can do all of them sort of, but instead we’ve decided to cut out one or two so we can breathe.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Yes, this is where it makes sense, like not canceling plans if you can help it, but declining stuff. If you’re frayed thin and are coming up with extraordinary measures to make each of five separate events happening on the same day, it’s ok to decline one or two to do the other ones fully.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
You know maybe? Probably? With a less supine SCOTUS, definitely?
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Yes exactly. Friends are people who we can share things with, whether they’re light good times or hard stuff when we need help. There’s levels obviously but not everything hard in a relationship is labor and therefore transactional.

This is the kind of shit I’m talking about. And like, my wife is estranged from her mother, for very good reason, and it is in many ways better that she is not in our lives, but the estrangement itself is also an ongoing source of pain for her.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Sure, I mean I thought it was taken as read that for the most part I was talking about things that were in the past?
figgityfigs.bsky.social
My point is that “forgiveness is a gift I give to you and withhold if you do not meet my qualifications” is just not what I believe forgiveness *is*. IMO forgiveness is the person doing the forgiving making the decision to reduce the power of something that had been binding *them*.

I’d personally seen it enough from this particular poster that I’d muted her a while back. It doesn’t read as much to me like fear as like audience engagement, because this place is a validation machine.
