The fun has been REAL, and today I have to go back home 😭

The boots and the collab aren’t the problem. The franchise merchandise is out of touch with the majority of fans, and that’s a huge disadvantage for gaining/keeping new fans
flutemusik.bsky.social
I could go on and on, but I won’t. There are vast swathes of merch potential that the franchise won’t even attempt to produce. It’s not just about making better merch; it’s about making what more people actually want and can afford.

franchise caters to a certain demographic: affluent fans, typically of just TOS and TNG. I’ve talked about the ugly jackets, gaudy watches, tchotchkes and replicas that cost more than twice my car payment. It’s about the stupid cheap Murf plush they only gave away a few of at NYCC in ‘22.

I am not “complaining about a collab,” nor was it ever about fashion. I have talked about lots on the subject of merch previously. This is our first interaction, so I don’t expect you to know that. Most recently it was about cheap-looking ugly shirts from the website. It’s more about how the…

Take a step outside your bubble of perception to try to see my point. The reason yours is an unpopular opinion is because it’s not based in the reality of most fans. (And nobody said they were mad about the collab, just the lack of less pricey options) Again, it’s not about just the boots.
flutemusik.bsky.social
Thanks for the boot rec, but that’s not the point. You are from Lower Manhattan. I live in a rural area in Ohio. You simply don’t understand the difference in accessibility, price points and merch availability. It’s not just about the boots.
flutemusik.bsky.social
I’d wager most of the cheap stuff they produce is made with questionable labor practices anyway
flutemusik.bsky.social
No one is expecting Fluevog quality for $50 or even $100, but the accessible items aren’t even of the same type (boot for boot). I hear your argument over labor, but that is an entirely different topic (and irrelevant) when they aren’t even TRYING to offer SOMETHING similar.

And the “cool stuff” tends to be wildly expensive. I get different price points will have differences in quality, but as I said in another spot, Star Wars markets high end lightsabers for collectors and cheap toy ones for kids. Star Trek could do the same with their merch. They miss a whole market
flutemusik.bsky.social
What do they market to the person with $40? Typically garbage. So a couple points I have here…the accessible items on the low price points are usually junk and kind of dumb. They are also often priced higher than they should be for the quality. Midrange stuff also tends to be overpriced
flutemusik.bsky.social
I really wish I had dedicated a folder on my phone for all of the ugly and stupid and ridiculously expensive things Star Trek has come out with these last few years. It’s not just about the damn boots…it’s about all of their merchandise (or lack thereof)
flutemusik.bsky.social
Erin’s comment is fine, but you aren’t hearing the larger issue. There is no “less expensive” option. And maybe I want to wear them too, but still don’t have Fluevog money. They don’t market to the working class…just people who want to blow large amounts of money.

So much. My brain only has processing space for short-term bitching 🤣

But she supports him 🙃

You can interview me as a disgruntled fan
flutemusik.bsky.social
Im over the merchandising targeting only affluent fans for the cool things, and offering only “cheaply made but still expensive for what it is” stuff that we can actually afford
flutemusik.bsky.social
Oh period, Uhura’s boots would be the best one of any
flutemusik.bsky.social
🤣 I’m everywhere (not really, but yes, I am here)
flutemusik.bsky.social
My thought process is like this: Star Wars licenses premium super high end lightsabers. They also license cheap toy ones that are sold at Walmart. There’s a market for BOTH
flutemusik.bsky.social
No, and I’m going to keep reminding them of the market they keep leaving out
flutemusik.bsky.social
I’ve been preaching this gospel for several years now
flutemusik.bsky.social
Not the point. The point is Trek LOVES to get this premium shit and ignore that regular (or gasp, even poor) fans might want to have something close to screen accurate. They constantly cater to the rich. It’s gross
