This thread on the Tories plans for mass deportation is really quite extraordinary, including deporting women on ILR who take maternity leave or who work part time because of family commitments.

It will include families of those earning above the threshold.

My department would be a ghost town.

The actual regime that these people are hankering after is Dubai: a small elite of citizens, most immigrants to be transient, insecure and all immigrants to be second-class. In reality they would hate the world they would create and would find ever-more ridiculous scapegoats for their failure.

Possibly the most concise summary of Streeting's #NHS policy that I have seen:

"This specious and unserious rubbish looks like nothing more than policy thinking as narcissism. ‘How would it suit me as a tech-literate, wealthy late middle-aged person to have the NHS redisorganised around my needs?’"

Also the lack of bed capacity generates inefficiency. The amount of time we spend managing bed shortages etc would be much better spent seeing patients.

That lack of capacity is used as a way to control demand, but is a very blunt instrument to do so. Far fairer would be explicit rationing.

A great article, and I agree that this is why the system is in crisis mode all the time.

Its a few years since I worked in ED, but:

A number system indicating waiting time doesn't work with triage as people get triaged to the front of the queue, so the tail of the queue moves slowly.

I highly recommend "The Crooked Cross". It's extraordinarily prescient for 1934.

Tyler the Creator on whether youth culture still exists. I don't know if this is completely true, but it does seem more true today than in the past.

I far prefer using the term "Old Coalfields" to "Redwall" etc. The distribution matches the Reform votes quite neatly.

Quite why former miners are so keen on a leader who is explicitly a Thatcher fan needs exploring.

Rarely are these areas of high immigration either.
