Also the lack of bed capacity generates inefficiency. The amount of time we spend managing bed shortages etc would be much better spent seeing patients.

That lack of capacity is used as a way to control demand, but is a very blunt instrument to do so. Far fairer would be explicit rationing.

A great article, and I agree that this is why the system is in crisis mode all the time.

Its a few years since I worked in ED, but:

A number system indicating waiting time doesn't work with triage as people get triaged to the front of the queue, so the tail of the queue moves slowly.

If Labour care about beating Reform then they need to give voters a reason to turn out and vote for them. There is no sign of that happening.

I highly recommend "The Crooked Cross". It's extraordinarily prescient for 1934.

Tyler the Creator on whether youth culture still exists. I don't know if this is completely true, but it does seem more true today than in the past.

I far prefer using the term "Old Coalfields" to "Redwall" etc. The distribution matches the Reform votes quite neatly.

Quite why former miners are so keen on a leader who is explicitly a Thatcher fan needs exploring.

Rarely are these areas of high immigration either.
