Do Trump and Vance really think that making themselves out to be Kings is a good look?
Presumably he also wants the British Empire restored to its former glory too, and Ireland back under the British?
Also the lack of bed capacity generates inefficiency. The amount of time we spend managing bed shortages etc would be much better spent seeing patients.

That lack of capacity is used as a way to control demand, but is a very blunt instrument to do so. Far fairer would be explicit rationing.
A great article, and I agree that this is why the system is in crisis mode all the time.

Its a few years since I worked in ED, but:

A number system indicating waiting time doesn't work with triage as people get triaged to the front of the queue, so the tail of the queue moves slowly.
If Labour care about beating Reform then they need to give voters a reason to turn out and vote for them. There is no sign of that happening.

Zack Polanski gets that people need hope and belief, Starmer doesn't.
Smug git won't get the leadership. Even his own party hates Streeting. He is Billy Nomates.
Isn't "Alpha Male" just a euphemism for asshole?
It is fairly easy to cook that way without a recipe, but you do need some basics in the pantry, and some understanding of how cooking works.
Interesting discussion here on the breakdown of youth cultures, as well as international homogenisation.

Is youth and regional culture over?
Tyler the Creator on whether youth culture still exists. I don't know if this is completely true, but it does seem more true today than in the past.
I far prefer using the term "Old Coalfields" to "Redwall" etc. The distribution matches the Reform votes quite neatly.

Quite why former miners are so keen on a leader who is explicitly a Thatcher fan needs exploring.

Rarely are these areas of high immigration either.
Why do rustbelts vote radical right? Studying the German Ruhr area, @nilsblossey.bsky.social, @lstoetze.bsky.social and I show: it’s not just about deindustrialization, but also about the original industrialization. Where coal is buried deeper and mining started later, the AfD is stronger today 1/12
I am not sure that the Monarchy could survive another dud of the same calibre.

The King knows this, and that drives a lot of his actions.
The King is the head of the Self Preservation Society.

The whole point of monarchy is that it is a genetic lottery.

If Charles hadn't been born, Andrew would be King.

Why can I remember no Labour politician making this point, this well?

Everybody except the Greens seems to think the best way to fight Reform is to agree with Farage about everything.

This, right here, is brilliant. And genuinely patriotic. And so, so true.
Genius! Why hadn't anyone thought of that before?

In Georgian England it was fashionable to wear artificial eyebrows made from mouse fur.

Wait long enough and fashions come around again...
Working for the Yankee dollar.

I am surprised that Argentinians tolerate this.
Trump on Milei: "If he loses, we will not be generous with Argentina."
Its not just on the far right either. I know a few who have disappeared down a left wing/Gaza rabbit hole.
Last night I heard of another friend of a friend who has been lost to a rabbit hole of online propaganda. We need to start treating this as a serious public health concern.
They can't imagine people doing anything without being paid. They really can't.
I think it is clearly because for the majority of folk these are not deal breaking.

Its the economy that matters. If the economy were doing better then immigration would not be considered such a threat.
The man that Badenoch and Farage want to copy.
