My dog, Max, had emergency Bloat Surgery last Sunday. While insurance covered a good chunk of the bill, I'm still trying to figure out the rest. If you're able to help out in anyway, Max and I would really appreciate it. We made a GoFundMe here gofund.me/8bccffcc6

So much egg on the faces of people who wanted to rebuild Hennepin Ave exactly as it was before. So that, after paying the price of a two year reconstruction, it would have reopened just as shitty and dangerous as ever. You should support local candidates who are brave enough to fix our streets.
Our advocacy succeeded in getting a closed intersection added to the safety improvement plan at 33rd and Park where 2 homes have been hit by cars. We pushed for more safety measures but the county was very resistant. The city has been easier to work with on the 35th and 36th project luckily.
It doesn't negate it but it would humanize it. I didn't write the flyer but this was my first time being this engaged in advocating for safer streets with neighbors. I don't know all the good tactics or the best way to get things done, however I'm willing to learn and start somewhere.
I offered to take this offline so I could better understand your POV as I am reading your words with my own biases. There was a lot of neighbors working on this project this last year with varying motives, but we came together in person to discuss common goals and what we could do to address it.
I would love to connect in person to discuss this more. There was a lot of advocacy work conducted in Fall 2024 that led to these public engagements event being held in spring of this year. We connected with over 200 neighbors by door knocking along the Park and Portland corridor.
You commented that Slow the Roll, who are all neighbors who live along Park and Portland Ave btw, "engaged in alarmist, unproductive, and disingenuous rhetoric about the redesigns and the County's work" so I showed you we did the work to get data to back up the claims.
Nine days after we conducted the Crash Analysis, a home was hit by a car traveling at high speeds literally across the street from where we conducted the Analysis .

Here is a follow up article written by Strong Towns staff

We (Slow the Roll, Laura, and others) worked with Strong Towns to conduct a Crash Analysis session on a house that was hot by a speeding car in August of 2024. We collected a lot of vehicle speed data and drew some conclusions in a report we shared with

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
If only these homes weren't looking at their phones, maybe they wouldn't have been hit.
I believe it! This house used to have a tree in the front yard, but that isn't there anymore so the homeowner added the barriers to protect their house. They have a young kid and they refuse to let them play in the front yard. Google street view showing the change from 2019 to 2022
This house must have been looking at its phone too. Crash on the corner of 33rd and Park Ave in Minneapolis, MN
Maybe we need to start putting jersey barriers in front of everyone's homes. 1 of 2 crashes that occurred at the same corner on Portland and 36th in Minneapolis, MM in August.

Landlord (at a street reconstruction open house): “My apartment building has 12 units so I need at least 12 spots, but our off street lot only has 8. You can’t remove the on street parking from this block for a bike lane.”

Mpls staff: “Mpls doesn’t have parking minimums.”

My coworker says thank you! They are going to check that out
My coworker tried to take the bus from DT Minneapolis to the transfer station at Venn Brewery this morning. The first scheduled bus never arrived and the second scheduled bus was late so he ended in Ubering so he wouldn't be more late to work than he already was.
2020 was a long year, what was he even referencing?

WEDNESDAY: Tell Hennepin County what you think of their latest plan for a redesigned Lyndale Ave. I'm gonna tell them how confused I am that anyone could think a shared use path mixing bikes and pedestrians would ever work there.
