"'Tell us about Mafeking Night,' said Kay. 'One gets sick of these discussions about right and wrong.'

'Mafeking Night...', began the magician, who was prepared to tell anybody about anything. But the King prevented him."

What would the Three Kingdoms equivalent of "we are so back" be? You can't say "we are Zhou back", because if there's one thing I've learned from your posts, it's how being "back" is...just not a thing that happens where Dong Zhou is in charge.

Ahhhhhhh heck, you have already more-or-less made this joke in the alt-text.

Attending a protest does not make you special now. It's just a normal activity for an American to engage in. Like working in retail.
friendatarms.bsky.social
Between 1-in-65 and 1-in-70 Americans attended the No Kings protests in June. Which necessarily means that *at least* 1-in-70 Americans have attended *at least one* protest this year. This is a slightly higher number than -- for instance -- the number of Americans who work as a "retail salesperson".

But second, and more importantly --

You don't get to pretend you're some kind of hero because you happened to be present during a single mid-tier protest. "Hundreds of people marched"? It's a major metropolitan area in 2025! This is the best Sharpton could do?

Walter Reed Medical Center also certfied Biden and Reagan as fit to serve. I think we have to conclude these doctors just see "lying about the President" as part of the job.

Never comes to anything under Ron DeSantis; never came to anything under Rick Scott before him. Apparently there was some serious pushback against Charlie Crist's tax policy back in 2009, but that was before I moved here.

It doesn't matter what kind of statements they make; what matters is action. In Florida, which also runs under the "direct-rule governor, rubber-stamp legislature" model, we also hear rumblings from various Congressmembers every couple of years.

[Pinching the bridge of my nose] Of course it is. This was inevitable.

"Coffee shop alternate universe". What does that even mean? I HATE IT HERE
friendatarms.bsky.social
But noooooo, instead it's "a novel, and shop, that will delight anyone who enjoys coffee shop alternate universes, slow-burn romances, and the vindication of friendship." Ohhhh, what a disappointment!
friendatarms.bsky.social
And that is a damn shame! If you're putting a coffeehouse in a standard-issue Early Modern/Steampunk/Renfaire fantasy setting, you've got the opening RIGHT THERE to write it as an 18th-century-style hotbed for revolutionaries and student dissidents and assorted ne'er-do-wells.

Against my better judgment, I looked up the plot of this book. And it's just...it's the story of the tavern where You All Meet In A Tavern, but the Kidz Bop version where alcohol isn't allowed.

American *everyone*, as far as I can tell. This song's been the national anthem since it came out.

If I could say this four months ago, so could the professional Politics-Knowers. But better late than never, I suppose.
