It doesn't matter what kind of statements they make; what matters is action. In Florida, which also runs under the "direct-rule governor, rubber-stamp legislature" model, we also hear rumblings from various Congressmembers every couple of years.

And that is a damn shame! If you're putting a coffeehouse in a standard-issue Early Modern/Steampunk/Renfaire fantasy setting, you've got the opening RIGHT THERE to write it as an 18th-century-style hotbed for revolutionaries and student dissidents and assorted ne'er-do-wells.
