Hopefully. It’s so stupid. All of Chapel Hill is like “This fucking guy and that fucking Board of Trustees are absolute entitled morons.” It is the literal talk of the town.

This summer, someone told me that it was good for her daughter to intern under Bill B @ UNC so that she could see that it takes being an asshole monster to your staff to be a winner. The message was that her daughter needed to endure that to be able to be a winner too.

Bahahaha

This whole interview with @lindseyboylan.bsky.social is amazing, but we need to shout this from the rooftops.

There's this message that abusive men like to send that's something like "yeah, I'm an abuser, but I'm a strong man who can get things done."

And no, he isn't.
LINDSEY BOYLAN: People who abuse women abuse every kind of power they have.

I swear to all the gods it’s so stupid. I’m hoping my solar installation goes ok this winter because I got so sick of that nonsense when I did renovations on my house last year.

Wtf is that about by the way. Why am I paying you if you cannot order the windows with enough lead time?

I am so lucky to be able to read with my 10 year old every night and, I swear, everyone with a kid needs to be reading the contemporary SF and Fantasy out there alongside their kids. Wings of Fire kicks butt. Got a girl into the teen/tween books? The books are better now.

This is a Thing in Czech food. It was revolutionary to 18 year old exchange student me. Bramborky (like a latke) with a runny egg on top is perfect food.

OH BOY. The middle school travel baseball boys are going to be extra about this

The amount of botox in some of these Peloton instructors. Sheeesh

I just. I just want people to have some respect for the fact that teachers have multiple degrees in their field and professional licenses and expertise.

Every time someone I know talks about how beautiful the sunny, 75 degree weather has been in September/early October in Rochester, NY I bite my tongue Very Hard because I have the reputation of being a contrarian.

I remember snowflakes at football games in late September. Snow.

Touching urchins! Anemones! At the Seattle aquarium. Just the experience of it was incredible. She loved how gentle and responsive they all were.
A kid gently touching an urchin in an indoor tidepool, clearly having a good time

The tidepool touch tank at the Seattle aquarium blew my kid’s mind

I’m *not* going to be keying things out (I have two kids and am a middle school teacher and I’m not a taxonomist) but even if it’s to Family, that’d be great. I am very good at cross-referencing with local insects and habitats and phenologies.

Works *out*. I never took larval bio so I’ve been learning based on exposure and experience. Is there a good holometabolous larval field guide beyond Wagner’s caterpillar guides? #Entomology #EntSky

It’s a soldier beetle!!! Whaaaat????? I thought it was weird predatory beetle larvaish. Love it when that works our.
frogsandgrubs.bsky.social
I think this is a beetle!?? There were dozens in a park, wandering. My phone couldn’t handle the detail on the matte black. Maybe an inch long. The antennae have distinct antennomeres and a flat, scleratized head. No idea. Really don’t think it’s a lep or a fly. #Entomology #Larva
Little fuzzy matte black mystery larva with visible legs It’s like black velvet!!! What a weird little guy. It’s vaguely fireflyish but it’s way too squishy and not enough like an alligator

What I’m saying is you’re doing good work and I miss the Western NY vibe very much sometimes.

I teach 7th and 8th grade. I mentioned that I’m from Rochester and this kid goes “YAAAS ROCHESTER! I’m from there!” His dad is from Rochester and he was born there and so much about this kid’s aesthetic makes sense now. It is distinctly not the country club/academic vibe that permeates Chapel Hill.

Hi. It’s me. A Rochesterian living in NC who doesn’t follow football following the Bills game through @erinbiba.bsky.social because I am invested in them winning for my entire life

The exposure and trials of ICE can’t come soon enough. May the justice be severe and tortuous.

I make peanuts as a middle school science teacher but this was my commute this morning
A path in the woods strewn with fall leaves

In today’s episode of “Getting Ready for School” my toddler ate a chocolate chip scone for breakfast + a few blueberries + two fists full of chocolate chips.

Big sister made sourdough + PB + banana + chocolate chip sandwich for her packed lunch.
