I love the woods in the morning. Today was no different!

A very large flush of chicken of the woods mushrooms on a hardwood log. They appear to be bright orange and yellow waves outside the bark. There hasn’t been any rain for weeks yet here they are.

A small flush of hen of the woods mushrooms at the base of an oak tree.

White bane berry aka Doll’s Eyes are white berries with black irises on a central stem that is dark red. All of the foliage is dead and only the stalk remains.

Another flush of chicken of the woods mushrooms on a tall hardwood stump . These look like pale pancakes from the side since they are older and dried. It was the first thing I saw even before hitting the trail!

It’s that time again. All the plants that got nursed outdoors or just healthy from the season now don’t fit in their old locations. Btw, I have the plant stand to the right currently and the one to the left of the mantle I had as a rolling cart a couple of years ago!

I’m betting on some type of tooth fungus. I’ve recently seen some that died and dried that got a second life with a new fungus completely enveloping the old one.
