I don’t even understand the obsession with this guy. He made a few good videos and had no political track record. Extremely problematic stuff has come out. Even if you think Mills has issues too, there’s 8 months until the primary for someone under age 65 without Nazi tattoos to break through.

There is also a reasonable chance that Republicans eliminate it to end the shutdown. They’d probably try to include favorable carve-outs, but if they do that I hope and suspect it will move the needle with the few remaining pro-filibuster Dems.

If you take the lump sum, after taxes a $3M jackpot is probably around $1M. Or about $35-40k per year at a safe withdrawal rate. If you live in a very low cost of living area or move abroad you can have a lean retirement on that amount, but it’s not going to go very far in a major US metro area.

Playing the lottery to win $3M or $300M is “stupid” from an economic perspective. Put your money in a low fee index fund instead.

But if you treat it as an occasional cheap form of entertainment to daydream for a day or two, the entertainment value of a $300M jackpot is significantly higher.

Personally, I probably would not vote for a candidate that old if there were younger candidates that were just as good or better. But sometimes there aren’t. We should leave it to Maine voters; if they don’t want Mills they can vote for someone else.
