Lots of things are brewing in the ATmoshere, the ATproto compatible ecosystem in which Bluesky lives.

at the moment, the protocol is focused on public aggregated data. for a chat product, you can use the identity layer for login, but you’d want something separate (ideally e2ee) for actual communication. see @germnetwork.com for experiments in that area
