When around halfway across the diagonal, a very perturbed motorist slowed down when passing beside me and shouted from his car, "What you're doing is illegal! It's illegal!", before speeding off.

Hah, this reminds me of a pedestrian experience I had some years ago. 'Twas a hot Summer day, and I was over-dressed (as usual for the season), and whilst returning from a doctor's appointment—40 min. stroll each way—I dared to walk "catty-corner" at an intersection, mis-timing the light change. 1/2

"Mesmerizing cinematography" typically means there's a lot of stationary camera shots of static images.
