Wow, way worse than I expected. Way, way worse. All these extra years of coal-fired power generation in QLD will directly cause a massive number of avoidable deaths and harm to people, and destroy huge swathes of nature.

Why isn't there more anger?

Just remembered this jaw-dropping graph by @oceansclimatecu.bsky.social showing the rate of change in CO2 during the previous two deglaciations of the Pleistocene (which, as a fun aside, featured ~400 feet of sea level rise) as compared with today

$10m of fraud recovered from the Australian “job provider” system in the last 3 years and not one provider removed from the system.

So welfare recipients lose their ability to pay for shelter or food due to other people’s errors, but job providers face no consequences for fraud.
antipovertycentre.org
Lmao the employment department has recovered 10.6 MILLION from providers due to fraud tip-offs over 3 years, and not shut down a single provider.

Reminder: They spend 4 BILLION A YEAR on this system, which is about 25% of how much they spend on JobSeeker payments each year.

That's two years now where coal hasn't followed the downwards trajectory of the decade before that. It's flat: and that means cumulative emissions are rising.

We're doing this to get rid of fossil fuels, folks!

Climate misinformation are common, influential and damaging. They’re spread for a reason: to slow the uptake of clean alternatives to fossil fuels.

The first time I heard someone cleanly explain what was going on was Mark Blyth during a talk at the London School of Economics soon after the inauguration. What we're looking at, he said, is an attempt to use government to strand renewable assets before fossil fuel assets become stranded.

Misinformation and “astroturfing” is alive and well in energy debates in Australia, and fostering community division, as well as bullying and intimidation, inquiry hears.

IPCC reports #renewables now 10 times more efficient than new #nuclear at #climate mitigation.
92.5% new power generation capacity added worldwide in 2024 was from renewables - with new nuclear nowhere.
New nuclear vastly over-cost and over-time.
