Prophylaxis is praxis.

Why are some still spreading misinfo that "masks only work when everyone wears one," & use it as an excuse not to mask as "no-one else is."

It isn't all or nothing. While it's safer when more mask because there's less virus in the air, a well-fitting mask protects you even if no-one else masks.

The idea that any of us who actually care about the future should be “all in” for any one person is what’s not going anywhere.

There are no lone heroes. Every politician needs a push—likely many pushes—and elections aren’t the end of the fight, they’re the start.

I saw myself as maybe all in for J.B. Pritzker

But I am losing faith, rapidly.

Police state fascism in America is bigger than Trump. It's backed by Democrats just like Republicans. And it's not going anywhere

Note: it's not even curfew yet.

State police just started pushing people off the business park corner. Here in the road, a brave group of demonstrators are attempting to hold their line.

Winner of the Tigers-Mariners game? On line, anyway, it actually does depend on the narrator.

Crok keeps doing its thing! It’s like a puzzle—spot the slop!

Mariners won—not the Tigers.
Final score wasn’t 4-3–it was 3-2.
Riley Greene didn’t homer at any point in this game—in fact, he went 0-6!
Game did not end after 2am—it was 1:07am EDT/10:07pm in Seattle.
There weren’t 32 Ks—there were 37.

Tigers Advance with 15-Inning Thriller
Over Mariners, No Ghost Runner
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-3 in a 15-inning American League Wild Card game at T-Mobile Park, advancing in the series thanks to Riley Greene's two-run homer in the 15th. MLB's postseason rules omitted the ghost runner, leading to traditional extra-inning play that lasted past 2 a.m. ET and included 32 strikeouts. The matchup highlighted ongoing discussions about the ghost runner rule's role in regular-season games, with fans and critics divided on its impact on strategy and excitement.

We will need domestic war crimes trials, we will need a truth & reconciliation process, we will need to join the ICC, we will need to wholly abolish wholly corrupted federal agencies, we will need to pay reparations.

Will the representatives of “we” have the courage to do any of it?

The disease detectives are being purged from the CDC. So are those watching global health. You won’t know the what, when, where or how of the next pandemic at a time when we the US is mostly ignoring the current, ongoing one.

Want to protest? Want to fight back? Wear a high-quality mask in public.

FULL STORY HERE: Emails began flooding CDC inboxes late Friday night announcing dozens of layoffs. HR people brought back from furlough to oversee the RIFs. Disease detectives, entire Washington office, global health, injury prevention, MMWR staff among those hit.

Hochul is also about to cite costs as she kills other bills while mailing “inflation rebates” to every tax-paying New Yorker. No direct deposit available. & because it’s a check & not a tax credit, it’s federally taxable—so Hochul is transferring $ previously collected from NY for NY to Trump’s IRS.

Gov. Kathy Hochul buried seven vetoes of popular, progressive bills yesterday—freedom of information improvements, price transparency on delivery apps, nursing home regulation—all legislation written by the same Orange County Democrat, who had been critical of Hochul’s anti-progressive ways.

Also, real fans agree the ghost runner sucks—& as the season went on, more & more baseball writers & broadcasters came to say the same.

The “controversy,” which Crok thinks is “engagement,” appears to have started with a professionally grumpy LA sportswriter widely seen as past his sell-by date.

I’ll also add that, as this very long game showed, baseball really is a team sport. It really does take a whole roster to get through a season & a series. Yes, great players can give you an edge, but they don’t guarantee a win.

Just ask any Yankees fan.
greggjlevine.bsky.social
And the Tigers are an especially awful organization, owned by wingnuts, with a front office that has been repeatedly accused of sexual harassment & racism. So, it’s gratifying to see them fail.
greggjlevine.bsky.social
I once sat in the rain for a NLCS game that was so long they held a 2nd 7th inning stretch in the 14th inning.

This game was longer.

Most sports are about the action; what makes baseball so intense is that the game is also about the in-between. It’s chess, but requires hand-eye coordination.

Five hours later, the pitchers are the only guys left who look like they can still stand up.

And yet just five hours after this story was published, NPR ran a puff piece about a uranium reprocessing scheme Thiel is backing. smdh
greggjlevine.bsky.social
That @npr.org runs a piece describing Third Way as a “left of center” “think tank” is enough to tar the entire editorial enterprise, but to then have that 3rd Way flak regurgitate pro-uranium enrichment claptrap from the nuclear industry right after the story fluffs some Thiel-funded contractor is 🤮

Oh look, another reason to want the Tigers to lose.

But, for favorite early Bacharach sung by a Gene, I’ll go with this:
