My mission is to write clearly and affirmatively.

It's common to use metaphor and imagery, which is fine, but it can lead to misunderstanding. Overuse is obfuscatory, excessive use is a red flag of intentional bullshitting.

But I get it, a lot of folk are reluctant to say what they really mean.

Just claiming to not be surprised isn't much of an explanation.

Neither is "everything always sucks"

But in my experience most people don't care much for more nuanced explanations any better.
grsmn.bsky.social
IMO people who claim to not be surprised and so why should you be..

Are using that stance as a way to deal with their own feelings.

Don't know about others, but I've learned enough history to know things have as awful or even worse at many points in the past.

And I don't believe people are intrinsically any better than they were in past.

But I would never scold someone for not sharing my perspective. Expectations vary.

I do agree, but my feed has plenty of harsh words for Trump as it is 🫤
grsmn.bsky.social
Yes, Trump clearly doesn't want to. But what does he want?

If he really was "Putin's puppet," he would have dropped all sanctions and hard cut all aid to Ukraine including intelligence sharing.

But he hasn't done that either.

Trump is easy to manipulate, that's about all that's certain.

Zelenskky doing what he must to help his people.

Trump doing what he must to feel a little bit less awful about himself.

I might well be surprised.

But even dark red areas have blue voters..and.. oh you know

I see Russia spending more money and manpower repairing the facilities.

And I see Russians becoming less confident in Putins ability to protect them.

Those must be worth something, in the opinion of Ukrainian leaders.

Put a lifelong criminal in the WH, confirm his lackeys, and watch him dismantle the justice system.

Thank the NYT for invaluable assistance in that effort.

Now back to my toast with butter emails.

There's a lot of "just doin my job" with no concern for results..these days

ACA was a devils bargain that way.. a very popular but temporary reprieve.

I suspect more hospital workers are in the 30% than not.

The patients voted for him
grsmn.bsky.social
That's the money question, isn't it?

I suspect there *is* no Dem message that will work on these folk. They've been trained to hate Dems.
grsmn.bsky.social
Could just be he hates people.
grsmn.bsky.social
If they're already in poor health and voting GOP 70%, could be that in even worse health the GOP gets 80% or 90%.

IME in corpo land, orders aren't really necessary.

Employees are regularly filtered to ensure they fit in.

Solid advice. Practical.

another curmudgeonly thread for the many of you who will be entering organizing spaces.

all other things being equal, when confronted with one team of people recruiting you to Be a Thing and another team recruiting you to Do a Thing, please give serious thought to joining the second.
grsmn.bsky.social
Given the nature of what he wrote, can't imagine he wouldn't want it spread far and wide.
grsmn.bsky.social
This feels connected somehow to those ".. could never support the lesser of two evils" arguments.

if i've learned one thing from doing union stuff while also doing other forms of organizing, it's that you're better off with people you disagree with who are nevertheless trying to do the same thing as you than with people you agree with who aren't trying to do anything

"Sinister, Malevolent, Venomous: Stephen Miller Is Like No Other White House Aide in Modern US History"

Miller, the deputy White House chief of staff, has never hidden his disfigured & dangerous psyche. But now Trump has empowered him to execute his fascist impulses, writes John Harwood for Zeteo.

As terrible and stupid as this reassignment is, we know that enforcement has little to do with crime rates.

Not expecting a huge wave of criming cause of this.. well, not counting the moral crime of false arrests and brutal detentions.
