I've been at that low point often enough in my life that I don't wanna have to "need" anyone ever again, not that it's anyone else's fault or I was especially hurt or let down by anyone in particular, I just don't have any need for feelings like that
I think it's not bad to have a healthy distance from your friends, when you get too attached (when *I* get too attached), it creates all kinds of problems. An ongoing theme in my life it seems...
Why am I not friends with that person anymore? Uhhh, cuz I'm a fuckin' idiot? It's in my blood to ruin a good thing, just another mistake I get to carry with me for the rest of my life, but in a way it's been good for me and hopefully it's good for them too, I'm always gonna love them no matter what
In my experience... you put two people with ADHD and "special interests" in a call, anything can happen, say goodbye to the next 8 hours
We had completely different interests as far as "fandoms" go but the context of "Japanese media gone Western" was a common thread we could relate about all kinds of things, and I do love to bitch about Westerners ruining things
Just in case anyone cares about that, the "Bestie" I was talking about the other day... that was someone I loved a lot, but I don't have "best friends" and I don't rank my friends, we had a dynamic that was unique to us but I would say the same about all my friends in a different way, so that's all
I wonder if Sakurai asked his wife Michiko-san to make all the menus and HUD elements in this game too, I certainly hope so cuz her work is the best
Okay, I think I got all the politicizing out of my system... I'm just gonna talk about stuff I actually like now, I basically feel like a bitch-ass when I complain too much even though I love doing it, but I also don't. Hey, I'm looking forward to Kirby Air Riders... Sakurai is the KING!
A core memory for me is a slightly older girl showing me how to play Ratchet and Clank at a family BBQ and I just sat there and played for like 3 hours, that was so good. I think she thought Skidd McMarx was legitimately a cool guy which is FUNNY
All the girls I knew growing up who were into "geeky stuff" had good taste, they were into Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Pokémon, Final Fantasy, TWEWY, Persona, Silent Hill... If games had only been made with them in mind things would be better. It's the Gears of War guys who are the problem, kill them!
When I say gatekeep I mean the kinda people I went to school with who had no interest in playing stuff like Shadow of the Colossus cuz it was "gay" or whatever, those people should never have had their tastes accounted for, PERIOD. Fuck them, they don't care about games so why care about them?
Yeah, it's the majority of idiots who make things worse for everyone. I don't like being mean but I've really been feeling lately that we should have gatekept this shit harder man, I don't think we actually want games to be for everyone, sounds bad but Idk. Why is AAA gaming so anti-creativity?
If developers were simply given money to make the things they want to make, and it wouldn't cost much to make a return on their investments, we'd be playing Ape Escape 4, Mega Man Legends 3, everything you want but know you'll never get cuz the average customer has their standards in the gutter
There's a strong anti-capitalist argument for why games should go back to the 2000s by the way, do you think the creators LIKE charging you an extra $20 for a bunch of extra costumes and shit? They don't, if they had their way you'd be getting that stuff for free & then some. LIBERATE GAME DEVS NOW!
When I become Dictator of Games all games will be required to made with Switch 1 devkits, yes that's right... a golden age of games that look like they were made in 2008, FOREVER! People will learn to enjoy smooth surfaces and graphics that are easy to look at again, you won't even need glasses
Monster Hunter Rise is only as good as it is cuz the Switch was an outdated piece of shit hardware-wise, you can play it maxed out on PC and it's like... wow, a AAA game with an artstyle?? This is how games always used to look. It looks better than WILDS!
Nevermind, I just remembered Monster Hunter Rise exists... I'm good again... (but I do still need a different hobby)
Fuck Nintendo, fuck Sony, fuck Microsoft, fuck Valve, FUCK EM ALL, KILL EM! I hate video games, I'm gonna learn how to carve stuff out of wood instead, this is a woodcarving account now
Allow me to mourn what has been lost, cuz it *was* a special time and it's fuckin' over and it's not coming back, because people like PVP shooters too much or something. I hate my PS5 and it would be very cathartic to throw it out a second-story window, Astro Bot doesn't make up for anything
"Play indie games" I do... and there are some good ones, thankfully we seem to have moved past the 16-bit Metroidvania thing cuz I was bored of that, but I feel like people are going to get mad whatever I say, so whatever. Indies aren't the same thing as Saturn, PS1 & DS games, they're just not man
It wasn't even that long ago that we had a system like the Nintendo DS, which wasn't exactly a system of "heavy hitters", but it had a lot of neat little games you could usually get for bargain prices, I just got a flashcard recently and I'm looking forward to digging into some of these
It's DEEPLY SADDENING to me that AAA used to mean games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life... and now it means Far Cry 7 and Borderlands 5. Yeah I know, I'm old. I hated it when I was 14 and the Xbox 360 was all the rage, too. Gaming sucks. :/
When it comes to games I love all types of art, whether it's rough concepts or finished pieces... it's where I feel a lot of the personality and "human element" of the developers, not that there isn't a lot of that in the games too... games used to be so damn silly
I think I've always loved video game art, whatever impression you had from playing the game was enhanced by the drawings you saw in the manual and strategy guides. The game was good by itself, but the ART took it to another level, especially when you were an impressionable 8-year-old
These ones look concept-y, but the style is so different I have to assume it was Suetsugu. God I love the art for Minish Cap, it would be a dream of mine for these guys to work on another Toon Link game
