The changes were consulted on in autumn of 2023 before being agreed by the council’s Cabinet in January in 2024. Due to work required to update IT systems and work with neighbouring councils, the changes are now coming into effect.

New housing allocations policy starts
An updated housing allocations policy takes effect from Monday 20 October, aimed at making the best use of available housing for Hastings’ residents.

An updated housing allocations policy takes effect from Monday 20 October, aimed at making the best use of available housing for Hastings’ residents.

The policy changes will be made in stages, and everyone affected will be contacted by housing officers to explain what the changes mean to them.

The Hastings Neighbourhood Board is asking where the funding from government should be spent. It can be spent on things like new parks & playgrounds, bus shelters, bins / benches, restoring buildings & public spaces, better footpaths, leisure facilities & sports areas, arts, culture & local history.

Last winter, the Environment Agency issued more than 3,000 flood alerts, more than 1,600 flood warnings, and three severe flood warnings to people at risk. Yet fewer than half (47%) of those polled agreed they have a good understanding of how to protect their home.

In England there are around 6.3 million properties in areas at risk of flooding. Climate change continues to increase the likelihood and severity of flood events.

We have now closed applications to the Household Support Fund as we have received enough to spend the remaining funding.

The team will be working through the applications we received but were unable to pay in the summer and the new applications over the coming days.

We have now received more funding for the Household Support Fund Round 7. We will be processing applications that were made in the summer but not paid out, and are now accepting new applications.

Hastings Half Marathon is happening on Sunday, 5 October with road closures around the course.

The race starts at 10.30am from Sea Road and there will be rolling road closures along the route to keep the runners safe. Roads will be closed until 1pm.

The four group leaders at Hastings Borough Council (Green, Labour, Conservative and Hastings Independents Group) have also all signed a letter to the Secretary of State officially requesting that the borough elections scheduled for May 2026 are postponed. 6/7
