Just had to take a photo of this perfect looking Amanita muscaria lurking on the dark woodland floor! 🍄 📷 🌿

Wishing everyone a good weekend ahead 🕊️

A photograph of a Fly agaric mushroom that has a bright red cap that is covered in wart-like white spots which are remnants of the white veil of tissue that at first enclosed the young mushroom, and are sometimes washed off by the rain. It has a white stem with a bulbous base. Native to the UK. It is poisonous and infamous for its psychoactive and hallucinogenic properties!

'In the garden the Cosmos glow... soft pink places where young bush crickets show!' 😊 📷

For today's #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow the theme is #Glow Happy Saturday! ✨🕊️

#Photography #Nature #Invert #UKWildlife #FlowersOnSaturday #BloomScrolling
A photograph showing the side on angle of a pink Cosmos flower. It is being illuminated by the sun and shows a tiny Speckled Bush Cricket nymph that is on to one of the leaves. The cricket is a flightless species, green with minute black speckles and is staring straight at the camera. The background is blurred in shades of green and pink from other cosmos flowers. Taken in early Spring 2025 UK

Every so often I come across a close-up photo of a Jackdaw that reminds me of this verse:

Thrice happy bird! I too have seen
Much of the vanities of men;
And sick of having seen ’em,
Would cheerfully these limbs resign
For such a pair of wings as thine,
And such a head between ’em.

#WilliamCowper
A close-up of the head and chest of a Western Jackdaw (Coloeus monedula) by Kevinsphotos via Pixabay: https://pixabay.com/photos/jackdaw-blackbird-bird-animal-2332455/

The head of the Western Jackdaw is highly distinctive, featuring a glossy black cap on the crown and forehead that often exhibits a subtle blue or purple sheen. This dark cap sharply contrasts with the light grey or greyish-silver nape, cheeks, and sides of the neck, which often create a "hood" or "shawl" appearance. Its facial features are completed by a short, stout, black bill and, most notably, bright pale blue-grey or silvery-white irises in the adult, which stare out against the dark facial plumage, serving as a key identification marker. 2.5 Flash (Edited) 😊

Thank you, Sinead 😊🍄 It does sound plausible, but I don't think it is. I'm not an expert, but I believe Amanita muscaria is known for the compound muscimol, which has psychoactive properties, but these are not due to anti-muscarinic activity.

Finding the way through a forest of oak trees.

#EastCoastKin #Hiking #LandscapePhotography #OakTrees
A trail wraps along the side of a hill while long oak tree branches reach out and form an arch over the trail. There are lighter green trees in the background and hazy sun. The ground is covered with fallen oak leaves. King Trail in the Irish Hills of San Luis Obispo, California

It's #FrohawkFriday, the day we celebrate the butterfly studies and artwork of FW Frohawk.

Today's featured species is Small Heath - a small tawny brown butterfly of, aptly enough, heathland, but also rough grassland. Frohawk's artwork doesn't do their hairiness justice!

Like pleading, desperate hands clutching at thin air, Madre-de-louro, or Mother of laurel fungus stretches away from the trunks of laurel trees in the lush green laurisilva forests of Madeira. It's a fabulous, enigmatic fungus - its closest relative is found in Japan. #fungi
