Name this bird! 🤔 (See alt-text for clue) 🌏 #NameThisBird #MyBirdcards | #birdsoftheworld #birds ❤️🦜
"I am an Australian cockatoo, instantly recognizable by my vibrant rose-pink face and chest contrasted with my grey wings and back. I am highly social and often seen foraging for seeds on the ground in large flocks across open woodlands and farmlands." What bird am I? 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Athene cunicularia / Burrowing Owl

#birds #birdsoftheworld #nature #birdphotography #naturelovers #wildlife #beauty #NaturalBeauty #urbanwildlife #birdnerd #Birding #Wildlife #Photography #NaturePhotography
A photograph captures a close-up view of a burrowing owl perched on a tree branch, its piercing gaze directly confronting the viewer. The owl is the clear focus, centered in the frame, with the image taken at eye level, creating an intimate connection. It's perched on a textured tree branch, with its body angled slightly towards the viewer, suggesting an alert and watchful stance. The background is softly blurred, allowing the owl to stand out. The composition is well-balanced, with the branch providing a grounding element and the owl occupying a significant portion of the frame. Branches and leaves frame the owl from the top, adding to the overall composition.

🌏 Australian Zebra Finch (Taeniopygia castanotis)

The Australian Zebra Finch, also known as the Chestnut-eared Finch, is a small bird native to Central Australia. Males are more colourful, featuring orange cheek patches, black-striped chins, and spotted chestnut flanks; females are plain gray. They are widely distributed across the drier, central 75% of mainland Australia. These highly social, diurnal birds live in large flocks, mate for life, and breed in loose colonies, often following rainfall. Males are known for their complex songs. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Fun fact: Unlike most birds that scoop water and then tilt their heads back to let gravity help them swallow, the Zebra Finch uses a unique technique: they can sip and swallow water directly and continuously, allowing them to hydrate quickly.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Open hand
I scatter seeds
Of broken dreams
Melancholy husks
Of dashed hopes
Slowly dying
shades of grey
Withered now
I watch them
gently as
they fall
Torn yet never
to be born
Water with
my #ashen tears
I watch
them float
Upon my
sorrowful garden
Of a life never
sown

I'm fairly impressed with this phone shot of the moon I took this morning. Considering that I didn't use a tripod, and it's three years old, not bad, eh?! 🌕 #Moon #Kent #England
A cropped and "unblurred" photo of the moon taken on a mobile phone. The "Seas" are clearly visible as the darker areas, and Tycho crater is the bright spot 😎 The photo "unblurred" using the phone's editing software. The raw photo. Not much difference, to be honest. The moon as I first noticed it. It's the small white spot towards the centre.

The male (drake) is particularly distinctive, sporting a red bill, large white eye-crescents, and a dramatic set of 'sails' (upright feathers) on its back.
