Do colleagues have favourite readings to give graduate students to help them think about the problems as well as possibilties of doing inter-disciplinary work in medieval studies? I'd be grateful for suggestions please.

Five late antique communion loaves have been excavated in Turkey. Date from the C7th/8th, they have images of Christ, maltese crosses and a Greek inscription on them. Makes me think of all the bread stamps we must have lost from western Europe... www.anatolianarchaeology.net/1300-year-ol...

One of the reasons I left Kent was because they'd introduced online marking - and I simply couldn't do it.
helengittos.bsky.social
Yes. Very much that. It's more personal. And we're more likely to focus on brief feedback that captures the essence of things; foreground not background. Having limited space to write in is helpful, I think.
helengittos.bsky.social
Yep. So much faster; so much easier to concentrate; so much easier to engage with what they've written.

'Set in Hebden Bridge, Riot Women follows the fortunes of five menopausal women who form a punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest.'

I think I might be the target audience... 😅

(And it makes me feel less anxious we've only got 1 episode of Andor left!)

Huge variety. Coffins certainly weren't standard - shrouds, stone-lined, logs - all sorts - with lots of regional traditions. One of the questions we're currently trying to answer is 'why, sometimes, beds?'. As this study implies, there will have been different reasons at different times.
