That, and people wading in to argue with other people that they didn't even follow in the first place

I think this is a big part of it. We don't live in that world any more. We're all, to varying extents, facing so much bullshit in the background and in our day-to-day lives, so we don't post with the same lightness any more, and maybe we never will again

Yeah, I've been cutting and cutting mine for ages and it's worked every time. Half of the larger plant is cuttings from itself, and the smaller plant is entirely cuttings from the larger one (guess I'm probably at least third generation on some of these cuttings now; cuttings from cuttings)

Still can't remember which is which out of Robert Eggers and Dave Eggers, and at this point I accept that I probably never will without looking it up

There's probably quite a few other examples. Unless it had been played on Peel or the Evening Session, or (pre-university for me) Gary Crowley's show on GLR, there wasn't really any other way to hear something without buying it, so it wasn't uncommon to buy an album based solely on vibes and hope

PJ Harvey's Dry, and Rid Of Me, having not heard a single note of either, bought both together the week (possibly even the day) that Rid Of Me was released, based purely on what was being written about her at the time

on the flip, what did you buy blind on a total whim that turned out to be utterly life affirming?

What albums does everyone regret buying? Loads for me, but the one that really sticks in my mind is K by Kula Shaker, which I forced myself to listen to joylessly several times in the desperate attempt to convince myself I hadn’t wasted my money, and still get cringes of regret about 29 years later.

Old dude in a movie to his son: here boy, wear this trinket always so that, after I'm dead and the movie jumps forward in time, we know which of the characters is you
hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social
Why, yes, I am still reading Our Band Could Be Your Life (though, having first jumped forward to read Fugazi, Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, and Mudhoney, I'm now reading it in order from the beginning, which is why I'm only currently on Minutemen)

It feels crazy to say thank you to a politician for even acknowledging we exist, let alone expressing concrete goals to help us. But. Thank you Big Z

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Well, I just cried watching that, and I don't even live in the US

Includes songs that play fine from a copy of the same mp3 file elsewhere, so it doesn't seem to be the file
hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social
So why is desktop itunes no longer playing complete tracks on anything I'd recently added to my library and instead only playing the first minute or so (they're not itunes purchases, rather imported mp3s bought on bandcamp)?
hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social
Did they make you walk all the way around the block to even get in in the first place? That happened with the Refused gig last week, despite there only being about five people waiting to go in

Screened by, from the bottom up, Bar Trash, Bar Trash, Bar Trash, and Pink Palace, to complete a set of movies shown by queer-hosted film nights

I love it. I also added it to my dating app profile just before posting it here 😊

You know what, it’s one of those days, have Cookie Monster kaiju again.
hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social
I suspected that would be the case. It's only about three minutes out of my way when I go to the office so it would have been worth a shot

So basically the exact moment that the rest of the world realised that Johnny Cash was cool again
hiddenbonusnoise.bsky.social
Thanks! I saw you repost the copy that was in Shoreditch Flashback yesterday, and had I been in the office yesterday or today, I was going to go see if it was still there. Definitely going to have a listen to this (and may swing by Flashback on Monday, just in case)

Without reading the article, my only guess if that someone whose opinion of him was formed in the 1980s and hadn't paid the slightest attention to anything Johnny Cash did before or after that period
