> Trump suggests something catastrophically stupid
> everyone panics
> market dips a tiny bit
> motivated by the market panic, Trump rolls it back something stupider but less catastrophic
> Nothing eventually happens

Repeat twice per day, every day, until Jan 2029.

People on here can be really blase about mens’ struggles on here but it is weird how people say there aren’t positive role models for men anymore.
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
Of course, this is all very gendered lol. A girl who wants lots of dolls is selfish and materialistic and should get a good lesson on the true meaning of Christmas. But the gas being cheap so you can drive a car as big as you want is a human right

By far the most frustrating thing about trade policy discourse in an era of inflation is the disengenious flip flop between “we’re getting gouged on everyday essentials!” And “there’s more important things in life than cheap imported goods.”

Automating boring manufacturing jobs for comfortable knowledge industry work was an upgrade that didn’t really work. What happens when we change the direction and start making web designers change bedpans
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
This is true but also what is the social contract of a technology that refocuses automation away from what’s dirty/dull/dangerous and instead goes after clean/interesting/safe white collar jobs with high wages

the basic problem is that it is easier to reproduce an artist's style in almost every detail or answer most questions with like 88% accuracy than to walk up four steps

AI HUCKSTER: "i built you a machine that reads books for you."

ME: "can you build me a machine that unloads the dishwasher for me so *i* can read a book?"

A lot of progressives talk about the need for a church that satisfies people’s needs for connection to the spiritual and community, but purports liberal theology. But that exists, it’s called episcopalianism and it’s the fastest collapsing religion in the country lol
ciggysmokebringer.bsky.social
Dad's wife is an Episcopal Priest and it's been a trip seeing the greying of the congregations in different places and there being a kind of 'oh shit, what do we do then' thing about it with trying to be more family oriented, but also renting out the church for community services like treatment

Guys is it easy to remain competitive with Chinese manufacturers with .3% profit margins when you run a more capital intensive business and interest rates are at 4%, asking for a friend
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
Tbh it’s kinda funny how Trump is willing to not touch the golden goose that is AI when data center spend is sucking up any and all capital that could be going to farmers or manufacturing
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
Financial markets realizing that the AI boom exists within the US regulatory and science apparatus that’s currently collapsing

Sorry for wishing on the monkeys paw for developed democracies to be wracked with problems not attributable to insufficient housing construction

One day the only place they sell normal sedans/hatchbacks will be Japan
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
There was a recent success story about how most cars being sold in Denmark these days are electric… but I was curious which ones, and it was all super heavy VW group SUVs… it’s bleak out there.
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
It’s especially maddening how they constantly flip between “we’re getting gouged on every day essentials” and “there’s many things more important in life than cheap goods from China”

Sometimes TikTok gives me a meme that wouldn’t have been very far out of place on vine and it makes you realize how far short form video content has fallen.
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
Tbh globally everyone seems to be voting inflationary maniacs to punish incumbents for tolerating inflation
dorianlynskey.bsky.social
It’s extraordinary that Biden’s main weaknesses were inflation and cognitive decline and now America has inflation and cognitive decline as well as tariffs, authoritarianism, blatant corruption, etc
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
This is my theory as to why so many American lefties think America is some sort of tyrannical technocracy of economists and engineers. If you go purely off of the professor pay scales, it’s true!
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
My favorite forever was Maverick tbh, one of the first roller coasters built to have actually bypassed my human brain knowledge that I’m on a very safe machine.
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
Now I’m craving a ride on millennium forceless fr fr right now

It’s really beautiful in America that you can go to a theme park themed all around Dolly Parton and order a $230 apple pie that weighs 25 pounds and against all odds is actually pretty good
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
I grew up going to cedar point every summer and I loved it but as a park it’s more about pushing the limits of your limbic system and eating overcooked chicken tenders than it is about cool themed experiences
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
It’s very amusing that in America we have a theme park entirely themed to Dolly Parton and it’s probably the best non-Disney theme park in the world
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
It’s kinda amusing that LLMs are such a power tool but it also takes a lot of money to RLHF “Biden is no longer president” into them
hikoukihikouki9.bsky.social
I’m not sure if I buy it but there’s some reasons to believe that the ratio of people studying law to those studying engineering in developing countries is a good indicator of future growth in developing countries.

I think if white collar employment goes more from human creation to signing off AI outputs as being compliant with regulations, I think that would create a massive incentive from the middle class for more onerous regulations to protect and enrich white collar workers
