The transhumanist drive and the current and emerging political-economic model thus threaten the ability to turn the malaise that is an obstacle, a state of tension, an awareness of the ephemeral, into revolution.
It is no coincidence that much of the expansionist rhetoric on technology revolves around health, medicine, security and, in the extreme, immortality.
The ideological capture of transhumanist capitalism is always answered by those who are either part of an advantaged class or naive, because the promise of a better human condition provided by the technologies thus utilised, in a world of finite resources, is pure hypocrisy and indifference to real suffering. See the example of hyper-technological cities like Dubai or The Line project, the 'city of the future planned in Saudi Arabia, as well as all smart cities projects. Here we are talking about a future in which class inequality will be exacerbated in proportion to the development of the most advanced technologies, concentrated in circumscribed and forcibly elitist places, while outside the situation will degenerate. The world can only tend to the right, and we can already see this today, because although technological progress may give us a number of advantages, the political-economic model is globally based on the exploitation of resources, on new forms of colonialism and inequality, and above all on the progressive loss of individual and collective freedom. In addition to the potential instrumental advantages, there is the inevitable counterpart of an ever-increasing control of bodies, identities, roles and movements. The same model of social management of the pandemic can now be reactivated and enhanced through technologies that will be increasingly invasive. And we know that this pandemic will probably not be the last.
