Starmer says UK ready to help disarm Hamas UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that his country is ready to help monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and in the "decomissioning of Hamas capability and weaponry". Addressing the Gaza summit in Egypt, Starmer said the UK  "stands ready" to "play its full part", in ensuring an enduring ceasefire, citing the country's experience in decommissioning paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland. Hamas has maintained publicly that it is opposed to disarmament. Hamas official Bassem Naim has said in an interview with Sky News that the group will not completely disarm. He added that the group would hand over its weapons to the military of a Palestinian state that includes its members. "No one has the right to deny us the right to resist the occupation," Naim said. But experts quoted by Al Jazeera have reported that the group have privately communicated to interlocutors that it is open to "a decommissioning process of Hamas's offensive weapons".
