AN ALTERNATE THAT ADDS MORE SPACE FOR COMMUNITY YOU SAY? YES- WE HAVE A PLAN FOR THAT!!!

BUILD THE POCKET PARK INSTEAD OF AN EXPANSIVE & EXPENSIVE INTERSECTION THAT STILL PRIORITIZES CARS
howephil.bsky.social
DON’T LET ENGINEERS KILL COMMUNITY HANGOUTS!

Just say no to expansive intersection designs that keep wide lanes, provide minimum pedestrian space, and remove gathering space currently used by neighbors.

Instead- add more space for neighbors, not less!!

For over 30 years (at least 1992 pictured), Atlanta’s Trolley Trail between the BeltLine & what’s currently built out has been on the books, working with the same city and PATH foundation.

We need to get this project right while we have then money to deliver!

⭐️ Meet up by the blue swings at Upper Lang-Carson Park at 5:20
🛑 Leaving promptly by bike at 5:25 for the short ride to meet @letspropelatl at Tye & Memorial at 5:30
🏁 After the ribbon cutting, continue along Memorial cycle track to DAS BBQ for social

Y’all remember that CIE project we submitted that @atlplanning & @atldot initially responded it with being infeasible & did not qualify for funds because of their assessment?

Yeah… Neighbors weren’t having it.

No left turn from Krog onto DeKalb is a go.

1) Here’s what a dual route / mix & match @atldot Trolley Trail could look like.

Provides sidewalk &/or trail access at 3 different routes between the @BeltLine and existing trail terminus.

2) Budget permitting, extend it a few blocks.

Throw in traffic calming on Kirkwood-👌

Here’s where my head is at for Atlanta’s proposed trolley trail extension to the @atlantabeltline

Kirkwood make a safe/open/slow/bike ped only street. Feel free to replace my text re: modal filters with any of the above & I support it lol. Just not yellow striped sidewalk 👎

Comments expected to go through the same email they collect for all projects, with meeting & project name in email subject line.

Expecting the digital copies & details shared online following the meeting.

Here’s the 2 handouts, same as posted before.

Pretty much everyone that bikes picked the north option. Much of the southern option selection due to the sidewalk gaps, which could be filled along with some of the northern alignment up to Kirkwood.

Really need comments back to ATLDOT to not make this binary, but best usage of funds…
howephil.bsky.social
Route decision positioned as binary, which is not what people shared they wanted nor required.

PATH said segment on Kirkwood connecting to BeltLine not in scope (wrong).

Need more than just MUP- better design

~50:50 of presenters receptive to constructive criticism (anecdotal)

Spoke takes away 1/3 of space in front of Mikkelson’s. 2-stop parklet not presented, yet cons to discredit similar to what the peanut still has:

-Stormwater drainage issues
-Potential for drivers to roll (while peanut is a continuous yield

Lanes = 14’+, VERY WIDE for Rtown!!!
howephil.bsky.social
Great seeing people out tonight!

Peanut not 100% done deal, but some at city trying to make it that way.

ATLDOT to make decision by 10/31, however IMO should have another follow-up & refinement of both route & intersection.

2 options on 2 boards to share preference… 👀

Hey- we have more than 1!!!

A lot of folks are heading to the transit town hall at the Central Library so thanks for sharing!

I did the full ride from Georgia Tech to Downtown Decatur Saturday, just 2-3 more large gaps away from a very safe multimodal corridor!

Was debating posting visuals until the event tonight, but here’s a few. First without my comments, some with.

Still putting north & south routes against one another. Instead, should test best from both.

Intersection proposes taking limited space from Mikkelson’s & no new park.

Glad to see Trolley Line Trail extensions considering multiple routes finally.

Appears there’s opportunity to get a little from both, fill sidewalk gaps, include direct route, use modal filters, & better allocate the budget.

Let’s see how this shakes out 👀
howephil.bsky.social
Was expecting a delivery today!

Was *not* expecting this delivery today!

Atlantans would *love* modal filters to mitigate cur through drivers in their neighborhoods and make the streets safer for kids & walking around again 👀
howephil.bsky.social
I mean the alternate isn’t they pass it, having no idea wtf we’re on the hook for beyond $5 billion.

The administration was trying to make city council present the (lack of) proposal *this week* to begin the adoption process.
howephil.bsky.social
We could also accomplish much of the same or more elsewhere if we budgeted the money that does come in from *not extending the TADs*

-Moving Atlanta Forward referenda: 5 year. $750 mil. Vote required.
-More MARTA: 30 year. $2.5 Billion. Vote required.

30 Year $5 billion TAD extension?
- ❌ No project list
- ❌ No vote

Tell APS & Coincil Members to not move on this & demand more details to be shared.
howephil.bsky.social
$5 billion, 30 year TAD ext. costs Atlantans 2x more than our $2.5 bil More MARTA projects we had a project list & had to vote to approve.

Also includes projects already funded the mayor is currently obstructing & wants trust on.

We deserve to see an itemized list & vote on it.

Forgot to take photos with my comments, but @ATLDOT prepping for their first transportation comprehensive development plan since their founding.

18 month process kicking off next year.

That 30 year $5bil TAD extension? Doesn’t appear to take this nor prior plans into account 👀
