Y'all — As a journalist covering global health and environmental disparities, I've lived in Atlanta car-free since 2018 because that is the easiest way to put my money where my mouth is!

I am organizing a half-marathon length bike ride to support my newsroom, and I'd love for you to be my sponsor:

President Donald Trump and his staff escalated their attacks on journalists with a new media bias tracker on the White House site.

The tracker comes after the president insulted female reporters at ABC, CBS, the New York Times and Bloomberg.

To @michaelemann.bsky.social's point, I simply don't see how a second Reconstruction, if we ever get there, does not involve televised trials of prominent propagandists of "hate media" like what was done after the Holocaust or the Rwandan Genocide

Important context: Columbus, Indiana is the hometown of former Vice President Mike Pence and his brother Greg Pence.

During the first Trump administration, Democrats flipped the Columbus City Council for the first time in a generation

Ben is correct: this is the first time in school history where Vandy is ranked in the AP poll in both football and men's basketball during the same week.

Vandy’s AD low key might be one of the best in the country, can’t remember the last time Vandy football and MBB were both ranked.
Clark Lea has agreed to a contract extension to remain at Vandy.

As a Northwestern alum, I can say that the university’s true motto has always been “the path of least resistance”

👀 when it comes to "harassment" and student protest, northwestern has given the trump administration what appears to be a veto over changes in policy: "Northwestern shall not revise or modify these policies and procedures without the consent of the Assistant Attorney General".

horrible.
You've heard of the Friday night news dump. Here's the Friday night of Thanksgiving wknd dump. For special circumstances, like when the faculty assembly votes 595-4 against paying to end a shakedown and you do it anyway. Link to agreement here: bulkmail.northwestern.edu/trk/click?re...

Northwestern and Columbia being famous for journalism and bending over for Trump seems a little too on the nose these days
This is the second largest payout from a private university to the Trump admin yet, second only to Columbia’s $200m

Have spoken/taught at Northwestern many times; have many good friends there; always been an admirer and fan. Multiple ties especially with Medill School. Will never forget commencement ceremony there, 19 years ago.

Not an admirer or fan of this.

Courage is contagious. So is capitulation.

Would you interview notorious liar George Santos, let him accuse female journalists reporting on him of being literal and not metaphorical prostitutes, refrain from any pushback, then publish and promote the interview for clicks?

By turning away Afghan refugees, many of whom have worked directly with the United States before the Taliban took over, this is what Trump is condemning tens of thousands of innocent people to: a regime where religious leaders can decide when you can use the Internet or call your business partners.
“100% of our communication is done through mobile phones,” farmer Iqbal Momand says. “When the blackout happened, everything came to a standstill. We could not contact the markets. Our harvested crops could not be transported.”
The Taliban's Internet Blackouts Are Devastating Afghan Farmers
When the Afghan government shut down all communication channels for two days due to political reasons, farmers were unable to contact buyers and transporters, resulting in significant losses.

The Nuremberg trials are *younger* than the sitting President of the United States, seven sitting United States Senators, and nineteen sitting United States Representatives
We're gonna need a truth and reconciliation commission and Nuremberg style trials to reckon with all of this evil, and any Dem candidate for office who shies away from a full reckoning in the name of "moving forward as a nation" can get well and truly fucked
I feel much safer today knowing that we deported a Babson College student back to a country where she hasn't lived since childhood.

She wasn't even flying internationally. She was flying to Texas.

mainstream media remains incredibly averse to saying trump is lying *even when he keeps telling the same lies and being corrected over and over.*

it's pretty obvious that trump refuses to take on info if he doesn't like it. you are allowed to call that lying! even if he's lying to himself also!
the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.
