To @michaelemann.bsky.social's point, I simply don't see how a second Reconstruction, if we ever get there, does not involve televised trials of prominent propagandists of "hate media" like what was done after the Holocaust or the Rwandan Genocide

mainstream media remains incredibly averse to saying trump is lying *even when he keeps telling the same lies and being corrected over and over.*
it's pretty obvious that trump refuses to take on info if he doesn't like it. you are allowed to call that lying! even if he's lying to himself also!

the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.

The bad news is that no matter how powerful you are, no matter how many laws you enforce even at gunpoint, you can't change people's hearts from the top down. But I guess that's also the good news
