Particularly at the local level, I think we don't discuss the fundamental tension between journalists' conception of themselves as "the Fourth Estate" and most of their workplaces either being a business in pursuit of profit and/or reliant on the noblesse oblige of an extraordinarily wealthy owner.

Bezos liked the idea of owning the Post, but has no principled belief in the role of media in a democracy. As soon as the Post did not align with is evolving worldview/business interests, he degraded it. And now it's core base of readers are also losing trust in it! bsky.app/profile/donm...

One more fun Providence subway tidbit: when the 1914 proposal was being worked on, a random guy (who may or may not have really existed) started writing irate letters to city council, angry that he, personally, had not been consulted on these important changes to the city.
An article about a supposed Mr H W Martin of New york who was upset that as a person who planned to build a hotel in Providence (plans not heretofore available) that he had not been included in consultation on these downtown changes
