NEWS: The criminal cases against James Comey and Letitia James are gone. A federal judge ruled that the appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the lead prosecutor was illegal.

DOJ could try again, but there are other headwinds.

Seems unlikely that Olivia Nuzzi keeps her job at Vanity Fair after all this.

And the magazine will absolutely deserve the embarrassment of saying, "JK, we're not going to hire her."

An extreme unforced error which calls into question the entire magazine's leadership.

If you work in social work, public health, substance counseling, mental health, public defense, etc. and you'd like me to chat about the book with you and some colleagues/friends via Zoom, I am *always* up for this. Drop a line!

Something nice that happened this week:

I got a note from a "Prescription for Pain" reader about their partner, who works as a social worker at a big-city public defender's office. Apparently, the reader's partner liked my book so much she bought a copy for the office library. 🥹

I sometimes say -- about my (volunteer) work as a board member and opinion editor at the @pvdcitycouncil.bsky.social -- that it's nice to be a part of the *start* of a news outlet, as opposed to the end of one.
The @thepvdeye.bsky.social is my first board. (I joined in January.)

And this is my first pledge-drive-adjacent video.

I hope you’ll consider joining me in supporting local, community-driven journalism in our beloved PVD.

This is really good.
"She’s not trying to rebuild her reputation as a journalist—she’s building a different kind of brand entirely, one where being interesting matters more than being ethical, where attention is the only currency that still spends."

I think a lot about this line from Studs Terkel's NYT obit, on his interview style and what he thought was the best question: "And what happened then?”
