“Do you believe in fate?” asks Senjuro, The Black Demon, to all those who cross his path. Victim or guide.

A masterless, mixed-race samurai, Senjuro skulks through the shadows of an evolving feudal Japan, seeking to serve...but the age of the Samurai flickers on the winds of modernization, and any work to be had is less than honorable. That is until Claire, a wealthy British explorer and anthropologist, swings through the tavern doors seeking aid from the man whose reputation precedes him; the one they call The Black Demon. Her family has just been monstrously slain and exsanguinated, and signs point to perpetrators beyond human. Along with Claire and her Sikh companion Jangveer, Senjuro the Black Demon must face hell on earth to deliver their reckoning, and in the process, find the honor he so desperately seeks.

From the singular mind of Ibrahim Moustafa, who turned time inside out in RETROACTIVE, reimagined The Count of Monte Cristo as a sci-fi epic in COUNT, and put the Western back in Space Western with CYN, comes a thriller that combines worlds have been long-destined to meet, but will collide for the first time within these pages.

Accompanied by an image of our samurai, Claire, and Jangveer in Sikh armor standing at a portcullis with fang-like spikes, dripping with blood.

That time Drew Struzan did a cover for Superman #800 (an homage to ACtion Comics #1 that featured himself in the corner!).

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

#Comics folks, I need you to pull up to this one.

The world sucks right now, and we have the opportunity to do a little bit of good for a displaced and marginalized member of our community. Please join me in supporting this KS campaign!

www.kickstarter.com/projects/den...
If you're somebody who values supporting marginalized voices in comics, here's your chance to put your money where your values are!

The writer of this RINGO NOM’D INDIE COMIC (and a very dear friend of mine) is a Syrian Refugee who has been through more continuous hardships than I have space to list here; constantly navigating visa applications, unstable living conditions, predatory landlords (limited options as a refugee).

Anas just wants to make comics and live a normal life like what so many of us take for granted. Backing this campaign will help Anas to take the next step toward freedom and autonomy, helping to fund a move to another country with more stable employment options. This is truly one of the most important comics purchases you will ever make.

Middle Eastern and North African comics creators are some of the most underrepresented in the comics industry of the western world. Anas isn’t running a GoFundMe to support this move, and is not asking for charity. Simply, Anas is using their talent for storytelling, along with Dennis’ gorgeous art, to offer you a beautiful experience in the comics medium, that also goes toward funding a better life for Anas.

I’m so proud of Anas, and humbled by their experiences and perseverance. I would like to see Anas’ Dream realized, and I’d love to see this community help to make that happen. Please join me in pledging to the Etheres Kickstarter campaign! (link below). Etheres cover B

We lost a lot when movie studios started opting for bad photoshop jobs over painted posters.

Feels timely that we lose one of the greatest living illustrators at a moment in history when oligarchs are trying to outsource creativity to machines.

Magic like Struzan’s is what has kept me going 🙏🙌
ibrahimmoustafa.bsky.social
I’ve seen several artists over the years (who are already top-tier) level-up, and when they’ve done so they’re often embracing Struzan’s techniques. For a lot of us it’s like unlocking a new level of ability and understanding of the craft. That’s how significant and influential he is.
ibrahimmoustafa.bsky.social
My favorite thing about his work is that he used relatively basic, inexpensive tools. But he was able to make masterpieces with them.

He was so brilliant with compositions, likenesses, and rendering. Most artists struggle their whole lives to become competent at ONE of those; he mastered them all.

Struzan’s work was the first art I saw as a kid that made me feel like I saw a magic trick. Like, I knew it wasn’t a photograph, but I just couldn’t work out exactly how it was a painting, either. A true instance of “how is this possible??”

Even after seeing footage of him working it’s still magic

We’ve lost Drew Struzan. A modern master, who by all accounts was a humble, sweet, loving, dedicated man. His work influenced culture itself, & we’ll be seeing that influence until the end of the modern world. What a legacy. What a body of work. May he rest well, & may his memory be a blessing.

If you know me, this is obviously one of my favorite movie posters of all time. Imagine being illustrated by Drew Struzan…damn, a master at making characters/actors really feel mythological. (Also just realized that is a CV radio thing in Jack Burton’s hand, his weapon really was being a loudmouth)

Forgot alt text for the accompanying photo above: pencil self-portrait on toned paper of Drew Struzan by the artist himself.
ibrahimmoustafa.bsky.social
Ah y’know, I actually have that and remember to use alt about 85% of the time besides, but this was a screen-cap that I shared directly to the app and the alt add-on doesn’t seem to catch those, apparently. So this one slipped through. It’s a self-portrait of Drew Struzan by the artist himself
