David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

It’s funny to see Danny’s reply next to mine. I’m as wordy as ChatGPT 😂

"In the age of Big Tech feeding large language models with stolen information in order to sell you the dream of AI, Alphabet decided to kill its golden goose and, with it, the free and open web that created the conditions for Google Search to thrive."

Google traffic analysis by housefresh.com.

"...That is why we added the websites belonging to those invited to the Googleplex for the Web Creator Conversation Event in 2024, those who have been public about attending Google Publisher Meetups in the past three years, and those who have been public about their struggles with Google in recent months.

84% of independent web creators analyzed have experienced traffic losses, with 43% of sites receiving 80% less traffic from Google Search between 2023 and 2025."

TIL that LinkedIn will start using our personal data and content to train their AI models.

This setting is set to “on” by default, unless you opt out.

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.
Artists are losing work, wages, and hope as bosses and clients embrace AI
Visual artists, illustrators and graphic designers share their stories about how AI is being used to lower wages, degrade work and even replace it altogether, in this installment of AI Killed My Job.

We are a group of people who love what they do for a living and have honed their skills over more than a decade.

If we are being honest, we are not in a hurry to offload our talent to feed somebody else’s machine.

We disagree with the general sense of urgency to make generative AI work for our business as a tool for automating our team’s jobs to the point of replacing them altogether.

Does this make us the New Luddites?

Reason #4: AI is not good for the web

At a time when websites are already struggling to keep the lights on, AI bots are not only scraping their content without providing fair value for what they take but also pushing web hosting costs up.
ichbingisele.bsky.social
Reason #3: AI is not good for the world

The most hyped AI abilities wouldn’t be possible without the vast amounts of electricity, water, and stolen human artwork consumed by the machines.
ichbingisele.bsky.social
Reason #2: AI is not good for our clients

Our clients include publicly traded companies, so we cannot risk introducing chatbot output riddled with errors.

A researcher or analyst (human or bot) who produces inaccurate information 50% of the time has no place on our team.

Reason #1: AI is not good for our people

AI-assisted work has been shown to weaken critical thinking and lead to dependency.

Workers using AI risk being caught in an efficiency trap where their human agency decays and they lose confidence in their autonomous capabilities.

As a digital-first business, the fruits of my team’s labour live and die on the web.

Yet, in 2025, the way we work could make some label us “Luddites.”

Here is why we are holding the line against the AI tide that is sweeping our industry away: neomam.com/a-case-for-h...

Breaking Google up was one of the last best hopes for preventing the free press from getting squeezed into oblivion and harvested into AI slop, and for saving the open web. The ruling that effectively lets Google continue operating as a monopoly isn't just disappointing, it's a disaster.
One of the last, best hopes for saving the open web and a free press is dead
The Google ruling is a disaster. Let the AI slop flow and the writers, journalists and creators get squeezed.

Citizen Is Using AI to Generate Crime Alerts With No Human Review. It’s Making a Lot of Mistakes
Three sources described how AI is writing alerts for Citizen and broadcasting them without prior human review. In one case AI mistranslated “motor vehicle accident” to “murder vehicle accident.”
