My granddad was also "mildly" autistic. He was born in 1897. Nobody took Tylenol then. He wasn't vaccinated against anything.

I wish we lived in a world where it was ok to be born different and be supported instead of looked at as a problem to wipe out.

My granddad's brother, who was also autistic. He lived a solitary life as a fisherman. This is a photo of him at work, one of the few images of him since he was so isolated socially. It was taken for a news story on the fishing village where I'm from.

The abuse/poverty/isolation of autistic women is a lot. My great-grandfather's sister Annie was autistic from every description I've heard of her. She died by suicide alone in a YWCA in the 1930s. I don't think I've ever shared that but I think of her all the time.

The thing I know about design of things or systems of things is that you can't open the mix, crack the eggs, whip the oil, and then be shocked when people are waiting on cake. I think it's about creating an elegant conduit in the gulf between the thing and the expectation of the thing.

Kingsley Bimpong should be alive. If we had public safety responses that cared for individuals instead of only looking for crimes this could have been avoided. Instead, Kingsley paid for it with his life and Dakota County taxpayers will be footing the bill for law enforcement’s indifference.

My problems are so small compared to what's going on for others but I still get overwhelmed.

I just want everything to be ok for everyone and for everyone to have chips and salsa and no problems, except for the people who created the problems, I want something very different for them.
