Aside from leading to one-fits-all policies that might harm more people than necessary I'd say it's also a rather condescending and paternalistic to claim to know what people need and want based on how some politician or academic has sorted them into boxes.
indri4biking.bsky.social
You can target specific policies at groups of people with similar needs on issue A without sorting them into large categories where some of them might be on opposite sides of issues B, C and D.

Is it really, in a society that's so complex?
In order to have a limited amount of "classes" you have to argue that most/all issues people face are directly connected and that all the differences aren't as relevant.
indri4biking.bsky.social
It would be worse than doing nothing. How are you going to enforce a ban on corporate donations if nobody cares about laws and the Constitution anymore?
Anyone, including big corporations and foreign nations, are just going to spend whatever they want. Just like Trump getting bribed openly.

For me it looks like a desperate attempt to keep alive concepts and language from a different era that are outdated by at least 50 years instead of finding ways to better describe society in the 21st century.
indri4biking.bsky.social
I'm still not understanding how that concept of "class" makes much sense when people move from one "class" to an other all the time. You don't fight a "class war" against you parents b/c the built some wealth while you struggle to find a job. Or b/c you prefer working as plumber instead of lawyer.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Has anyone ever presented a coherent definition of what "class" means in the 21st century?
In the 19th/early 20th you were born into a class and died in that class that didn't just define your financial situation and the work you could do but even more education, language and culture.
indri4biking.bsky.social
No? I'm sure this will be easy to explain to the 20%+ former Trump voters you'd need to have the power to do even a small part of this.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Great. How?
50% of voters chose Trump. Do you think running on retroactive criminalizing being MAGA is a way for Democrats to win the super-majority they'd need to do what you describe?

Didn't you want to say "Elders of Zion". How about not making everything about your obsession with Jews?

“Sooner or later, one day Donald Trump will not be active in American politics. And the sooner we spend our energy thinking about what to do next, I actually think the sooner that day will come."

Is there any evidence that voters care about whether candidates check the correct boxes based on some abstract theory about their preferences?
Vs vibes, personality, communication skills and charisma?
indri4biking.bsky.social
The time to take a firm stand and convince people of it is *after* you did everything possible to design a policy in a way to get the most benefit with the least harm.
This usually won't please everyone and it will always be some compromise. Because reality is complex.
indri4biking.bsky.social
And if you aren't right b/c with your limited experience you did overlook some important facts?
I didn't say that leaders should adjust their policies to pander to as many voters as possible. But just declaring you know best and ignoring negative aspects and unintended side effects isn't the way.
indri4biking.bsky.social
"Hedging" how? In order to have any chance to make systemic changes you have to build a broad coalition and find common ground on fundamental values and at least parts of your agenda with well over 50% of the population.
You can't do that by focusing on niche issues.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Not under normal circumstances. But if one candidate is eager to piss them off deliberately that might change the calculation.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Did you actually watch the clip?
indri4biking.bsky.social
You'd need more than 80% of the Democrats if all the Republican vote for the other candidate. Highly unlikely that so many change their minds.

Sure. But in order to decide whether the definition is met you need independent investigations, all the evidence, and some form of trial or conclusion. Impossible to do as private citizen with the amount of misinformation swirling around and the obvious and explicit bias of most sources.

If you look closely, you can see signs of GOP lawmakers fearing the long-term political consequences of paying more attention to Trump's demands than to the voices of their own constituents - or consciences.

The amount of work that went into researching the identity, bio, and affiliations of individuals on his donor list must have been staggering.

Yep. Real story.
Also doxxing a man in Nigeria who dared to support Pete in Social Media. From one of the most anti-gay countries.
