"Hedging" how? In order to have any chance to make systemic changes you have to build a broad coalition and find common ground on fundamental values and at least parts of your agenda with well over 50% of the population.
You can't do that by focusing on niche issues.

Not under normal circumstances. But if one candidate is eager to piss them off deliberately that might change the calculation.

Did you actually watch the clip?

You'd need more than 80% of the Democrats if all the Republican vote for the other candidate. Highly unlikely that so many change their minds.

Sure. But in order to decide whether the definition is met you need independent investigations, all the evidence, and some form of trial or conclusion. Impossible to do as private citizen with the amount of misinformation swirling around and the obvious and explicit bias of most sources.

If you look closely, you can see signs of GOP lawmakers fearing the long-term political consequences of paying more attention to Trump's demands than to the voices of their own constituents - or consciences.

The amount of work that went into researching the identity, bio, and affiliations of individuals on his donor list must have been staggering.

Yep. Real story.
Also doxxing a man in Nigeria who dared to support Pete in Social Media. From one of the most anti-gay countries.

I think it was elementary school.

I doubt it would be ok for a man to melt down at an interview.
Her reputation from the hearing makes it worse in my view. This interview proves that she isn't actually good at debating unless it's purely on her own terms and the arguments are prepared in advance.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Or dealing with a natural disaster, having to inform and calm the population, answer shouted questions from the press, while making important decisions after being awake for 24 hours.
indri4biking.bsky.social
The issue is that she doesn't seem to have the will or ability to keep her emotional reactions in check, act professionally and treat other people respectfully when something doesn't go exactly the way she would like. Worse, she's lashing out at others to hide that *she* made a mistake.
indri4biking.bsky.social
I don't think it's relevant whether the question was stupid. It was certainly a lot less stupid and hostile than what she would face near-daily as governor. It's not even whether she had a good answer to a softball question that could have been easily reformulated in a way she *wanted* to answer.
indri4biking.bsky.social
People can have bad days but if you act this way in a job interview (which this essentially was) you won't get the job.
As governor she'd have a lot more pressure, on a daily basis, than those softball questions. Is she going to yell at exhausted firefighters after a long night?
indri4biking.bsky.social
Maybe not "peak" but I'd say the men in your first group rank quite a bit higher in that metric than those in the second.
indri4biking.bsky.social
I disagree. This kind of getting angry and blaming others when you have fucked up yourself is a pattern.
indri4biking.bsky.social
There was no video evidence but lots of rumors and leaks.
Being one of 200+ legislators with no ultimate responsibility for difficult decisions is rather different than being the top executive leader. With more than a handful of staff and always in the spotlight.
indri4biking.bsky.social
That's obviously worse.
But I refuse to believe that there are no Democrats who are at least as qualified and do *not* have a toxic personality. Dealing both with intense pressure and people you might not like is a rather important part of the job she's applying for.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Sorry, but women can be strong and assertive without being a*holes to their (female) staff. There might be some underlying insecurity prompting that lashing out at other when getting embarassed but anyone who can't overcome that shouldn't have any place in top level politics.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Candidate, man or woman, loses temper on camera over getting follow-up questions after they flubbed the answer to the most predictable softball question. Politician uses the F word to a staffer while on a call with a Cabinet Secretary.
Yep, disqualfying for a high pressure job, for either gender.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Disagree. Maybe it wasn't the best question but the first reaction was so off that there obviously would be some follow-up.
indri4biking.bsky.social
It's even more important in her case b/c her fame is mainly based on allegedly being a good debater b/c she's been asking hard questions. This interview shows that she can only dish out but crumbles under the slightest push-back.
indri4biking.bsky.social
Whether the question was idiotic or not is irrelevant. Giving thoughtful answers to any kind of question, from interesting and helpful to dumb and hostile, from journalists or constituents, is an imporant part of the job she wants to have. So is staying cool under pressure, always.
