There's a bunch of communities on Resonite that host persistent "headless" sessions. Basically a world that's always up for people to join whenever they want. I have my own that I use as my home world (although I do sometimes close the session when I'm not around, or at least hide it from public).

I think there's some really cool experiences on VRChat, Chillout and Resonite. I'm always open to exploring other platforms with friends every now and then to catch those. All 3 communities have incredibly talented creators. I think only playing one means missing out on a lot of cool stuff.

The standing in front of mirrors for hours part has always turned me off. I remember that was pretty much the only thing people were doing last time I explored CVR. But I do hope by now there's a lot more to do x3

Not saying it's perfect by any means, but there's a lot of potential hiding under that crusty UI x3 (But I'm *really* looking forward to much of that UI being cast into the fires of hell and replaced with something decent in the future.)

That said for collaboratively building VR worlds with a team (which is what I'm interested in) Resonite so far is quite excellent already. I do think it's good enough that eventually VRC creation groups might look into it to make VRC worlds, once the game is able to easily export worlds to Unity.

Yeah especially when using Resonite in desktop mode there's lots of room for improvement. They do plan to eventually get the desktop editing experience on-par or better than Unity. But there's still a bunch of work required, it's still in early access for a reason.

On VRChat I never felt welcomed to the same degree, so besides some VRChat meetups and events I spent most of my time on Resonite. I've tried Chillout but it was years ago. I do want to check it out again some time though to see what's changed.

It's funnily the exact opposite as it is on Resonite. New users on Resonite have access to the same features and tools as people having played for thousands of hours. And at the same time old players get excited when a new user comes along and offer them assistance and tours pretty much instantly.

This cultural thing also exists on VRChat, although I do think it's somewhat by design. The game gives people tools to block new users automatically and only allows people to upload stuff once they have played for long enough. That sort of encouraged treating those as "second class citizens".

Stargate SG-1 and Resonite. But jokes on you, I've already spent the last weekend hooking my home world up to the in-game Stargate network. Crossover is already happening :D

hell yeah we’re making some abominations with the fuse power alright
@JewelKnightJess “the last tv show you watched is now getting a crossover with the last video game you played. what is the unholy abomination that has just been created?”

I published the world I have been working on the last few days, the High Tech Home! This small cozy world was specifically designed to be used as a home world and features lights you can turn on and off, adjustable shades, video player and more 🎉

When I started taking mine they knocked me out within minutes of taking them. But got used to it after a week or two, still sleep pretty deep after taking them though. But hey considering I had sleeping problems before I take it, solved two problems in one go.

I get that, that's why I suggested asking more people to upvote the issue.

That said, to some aspect this is also the sandbox nature of Resonite. With hard permissions you'll probably be able to lock it down to a spectator only experience, the question is if people would be interested in it then.
jackthefoxotter.bsky.social
Spawning objects you can already circumvent with the current permission system, I'm not sure hard permissions would make a difference there unless you want to specially disallow individual components. But then the question would be which ones without also breaking some avatars / avatar features.
jackthefoxotter.bsky.social
Hard permissions is up there, but still a good bit away from the highest upvoted issues, so I'd recommend upvoting it / asking others to do so. I know it's a prerequisite for component access which would be cool, but beyond that I'm personally not that excited about it. Still, will be good to have.

Resonite is more of a collaborative social VR game engine, VRChat is "only" a VR socializing platform. Both are pretty good in their own regard! But I feel Resonite offers much more opportunities to do things with your friends. But it's also still unfinished and in some areas less polished than VRC.

The main difference is that you can create things in-game without needing an external editor. You can also save individual objects and spawn them out in other worlds. Anything you do on Resonite is cooperative, so if you're for example working on an avatar, you can do it together with friends.

I'm hoping it will be possible to implement the new IK as generalized building blocks. It would be super cool to have a generic IK system with limits / constraints at our disposal. There's so many uses besides avatars that IK is really well suited for!
jackthefoxotter.bsky.social
But even then I still save regularly! Usually just saving the object to my work inventory folder.
jackthefoxotter.bsky.social
That's the reason why I usually do all of my work on a headless server. Sometimes either my client crashes or whatever I'm working on has an error that crashes the world, this way I minimize the risk of loosing progress. Only risk remaining is crashing while holding the thing I'm working on.

I never said it's a performance measurement tool. I'm just saying that's what people are currently (mis)using it for.
