On Morgans point about the govts need to drive on the anti far right theme - and how it got them through conferance - entirely agree but they appear to have taken the off the gas on it immediately

It definately did seek there were two brosd approaches with enthusiasm/traction: the fringes I attended (largely focused on the communitarian stuff) were pretty busy and I saw a lot in the YIMBY stuff. Possibly why it didnt feel, to me, lacking enthusiasm.

Certainly major changes to one of the big 3. Particularly as there is also a bit in there about managing inconsistencies in the tax system and trying to do this with tax around the edges would create more, not less, issues

This would be a good move but there is absoloutely no way you can do this, fill the hole and meet political imperatives around spending (two child cap et al) with the sort of tax measures that are mentioned here.

Which points a more substantive budget than we had perhaps expected.
