Feels there should be a way to synthasise the two: very social democratic politics of place stuff.

On Morgans point about the govts need to drive on the anti far right theme - and how it got them through conferance - entirely agree but they appear to have taken the off the gas on it immediately

It definately did seek there were two brosd approaches with enthusiasm/traction: the fringes I attended (largely focused on the communitarian stuff) were pretty busy and I saw a lot in the YIMBY stuff. Possibly why it didnt feel, to me, lacking enthusiasm.

Yes, the lass last night was similar. Had thought about the weather and that it might be dull but... that was it. Just very sheltered

Yes, youre going to have to clean out the whole thing

Thank you - and yes, makes sense. Potentially thinking theyll use a better forecast fof headroom and the VAT revaluation will help as well.

If they are going to do systemic changes, however, this is probably the last chance

Pragmatic, cynical, nice people

(As is pretending it has any force when they dont whip)

The falseness is my issue, not the ignoring conferance (their policy process is very silly)

At least were honest about being cynical bastards!

Certainly major changes to one of the big 3. Particularly as there is also a bit in there about managing inconsistencies in the tax system and trying to do this with tax around the edges would create more, not less, issues
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Potentially, but the OBR makes that hard
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Yes, were honest with it. The Greens false virtue is deeply annoying

I was trying to remember who wrote the first thing on it - but yes, from memory its very close

Tbh Id struggle with the ethics of being there at all - but I am a overthinker. But yes, agree entirely with you

There are a lot of mental parts of the Trump admin, but this may be the biggest one

This would be a good move but there is absoloutely no way you can do this, fill the hole and meet political imperatives around spending (two child cap et al) with the sort of tax measures that are mentioned here.

Which points a more substantive budget than we had perhaps expected.
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
I dont see how you can do this, and fill the hole, through the measures mentioned in this piece tho. Which points towards a far more substantial budget than I had anticipated.

Also, excellent piece Jonn

Has this consultancy just stolen @joxley.jmoxley.co.uk piece fully?
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
Also rather gives the lie to the Green partys big 'we decide policy at conferance' thing

Then maybe now would be a good time to clarify your position on the UK's commitment to NATO and its allies.

In particular, whether you still support collective security as currently envisaged by Article V.
