My understanding is: Bondage is a mechanism of Dominance/Submission, and Sadism/Masochism, but isn’t a necessity to either

Sadism is something that, when applied to art, can lead to positive relationships - using the word “Play” carries the connotation of consent (such as “Impact Play”)
