Oh, does it benefit the US to provide aid to foreign countries? That would have been good to know back in January and February.

The future we could have had...

Anyway, the whole book is hilarious (as are Barry's other novels), and I recommend reading it.

Then he reflects on how he has so much money, he could keep buying pizza places every night for 20 years and not run out of money. And while it's a fictional scene, written by someone who's not a billionaire, I think it's a good reminder of how rich people think of money.

There's a subplot in Dave Barry's novel Insane City about a billionaire obsessed with keeping score with other billionaires. And there's a scene where an even richer billionaire gets high and buys a pizza place just so he can get delivery...

I've been reliably informed that this sort of rhetoric is dangerous and should be punished

Yeah, this one sounds very typical of a new manager coming in and getting to know the lay of the land. But I also don't blame people for being on edge and seeing parallels to Elon's 5 things debacle.

Even with these helpful explanations, I had to read that paragraph so many times to figure it out.

HASSAN: What is habeas corpus?

NOEM: Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country

HASSAN: That's incorrect
jarodjohnson.bsky.social
It's like when Kristi Noem claimed habeas corpus was the President's right to shuffle prisoners around. These rights are to protect the people from the government, not the other way around.

The 4th Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures. It allows the government to perform reasonable searches, but it's not a "protected" right of the government.

There was a story was making the rounds on TikTok a couple weeks ago, but it was a pretty fishy story that involved the husband calling a conservative outlet in the middle of the night to report that his wife ODed on Tylenol. I'm not sure if that's what he's talking about

Oh, so they're going to start bombing domestic boats too. Cool cool cool.

Nobody's burning flags. This is just an excuse to chip away at free speech by starting with unpopular speech so he can move on to punishing any dissent

There's so much stupid crammed into in that post, but I appreciate you pointing that little nugget out.

"Masked, secret police, profiling people and now targeting entire apartment buildings, making everyone prove they're not guilty of something, is the province of tyrants. It is the opposite of America."

According to eyewitnesses, armed ICE agents dragged kids out of their beds in the middle of the night, zip tied them and put them in rented vans while raiding an * entire apartment building* on the South Side of Chicago.

This is the gulf of America that truly matters
kenwhite.bsky.social
There is a gulf in America. I submit it is the gulf between good and evil, or at least not-evil and evil.

The gulf is not just between people who oppose this and people who are indifferent to it or reluctantly accept it in support of immigration policy or see it as collateral damage.

This raid is disgusting, abominable behavior, traumatizing children and families in their homes.

My god.

“Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans. Kids were separated from their mothers…’It was heartbreaking to watch…seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.’”
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'

Kavanaugh stops quickly escalating to Kavanaugh raids
Rodrick Johnson, 67, is one of many residents who were detained by federal agents during the South Shore raid. A U.S. citizen, he said agents broke through his door and dragged him out in zip ties.

Johnson said he was left tied up outside the building for nearly three hours before agents finally let him go.

Q: Hegseth gave an edict about no more beardos in the military. Just wanted your response

JD VANCE: I didn't see that particular comment. I thought Pete gave a hell of a speech
