@elsevierconnect.bsky.social your Editorial Manager is horrible. Absolutely the worst. It is the bane of my existence.

If you want scientists to work for you pro-bono, then you need to get a handle on the horrible Editorial Manager login experience.

This is a problem of generalization. Art appreciation/aesthetics are inherently individualist (e.g., one’s trash is another’s treasure). Science & discovery is hard when observations vary so significantly and often idiosyncratically.

When I was an undergrad, I saw a talk by Oliver Sacks about music. During the Q&A, someone asked Sacks if he thought science would reveal the deepest mysteries of art. Sacks (a rare humanist among scientists) said that he doubted it, at which Eric Kandel (the host) leaped up and grabbed the mic.

So, what happens when this tech is used by insurance companies to deny coverage or businesses in making hiring decisions? The lack of bioethical considerations & guard rails around the use of AI in the often surreptitious detection & diagnosis of medical conditions is terrifying & disheartening.

I think it will be worse than that. At some point, the nut currently in charge is going to try to wave away ‘sovereign debt’ by default, then a ‘bubble’ will seem quaint by comparison. Dig up old letters from your great grandparents for what comes next.

@michael-feinberg.bsky.social: "These individuals all took an oath to uphold the Constitution. The very point of an oath is you follow it regardless of the personal consequences. If you're not willing to make those sacrifices, you should not be raising your right hand and reciting the oath."

Chris Christie: “Thie is no longer, the Department of Justice, is no longer the premier prosecuting office in America. What it is now is a capo regime who goes out and executes hits when directed by the Don to do so. That’s what it is.”

A musical production with lyrics like ‘arteriovenous malformation’ and ‘MRI’ is right down my lane! Wonderful show!

Apparently you are unfamiliar with standard bullying behavior? The bully ALWAYS needs foils to maintain the 'illusion' of dominance.
