Not to kink shame, but I think Mike wants to see more naked bike rides.

Also weirdly obsessed with donuts.

Either way, should be fun oral arguments to listen to in 11/5.

I don’t see that case mentioned in any of the briefs, though. They seem to be betting on (a) it’s all about foreign relations, (b) IEEPA includes tariff authority and (c) the prez has supreme authority to define “emergency.”

Exactly, except at present the standards aren’t good enough, especially when you start including clinical notes. They can run for pages and different docs have different styles. The LLM is effectively making a database of the clinical note data.
jfs.bsky.social
There’s other “what can we find if we turn the LLM loose on the medical records” use cases, but the sepsis one was a notable success.

According to the team, it’s because the early warning signs are usually spread across a different teams and different doctors storing data in very different ways. No one person has the complete view unless they’re searching for it in advance.

The world would be a less stupid place if we had just called it all ML or LLM, but NOOOO, they had to say it’s AI.
jfs.bsky.social
Here’s an example of useful AI - one of the major medical software companies offers a feature that looks at patient records and treatment history and flags signs of sepsis, which can start insidiously. Sometimes you need a big picture to see early warning signs.

What FCC rules? The FCC has no jurisdiction over cable, internet, or satellite content. It barely has jurisdiction over broadcast content. This body you propose would be powerless over content unless you first repeal 1A, which I still argue would be a very dangerous move.
jfs.bsky.social
That’s not how Constitutional Law works. There are no unenforced exceptions to 1A. If the court doesn’t recognize an exception, it doesn’t exist. The court makes this point repeatedly about 1A. What exception are you thinking of here?

Same. It was his use of the word “debate” that annoyed me. That, and him using ChatGPT to explain immunology to me. Granted, I only have a BS degree in that subject, but still…

I’d like to know how any of this makes money. Okay, so maybe AI can replace actors in movies. This will make a profit how exactly? Are 50M Americans going to pay $100/month so they can recast Friends? How is any of this going to be more than just stupid social media clips?

This is a good example of how politics has become a team sport. These people are about winning, scoring points and supporting the team. Nothing else matters. MAGA offers more entertainment to him, so he's rooting for MAGA. That's what politics is these days, and it's not just a right-wing problem.

*Unless they cross the Brandenburg line. Lighting up a cross in the middle of an alt-right protest and screaming "I know where nonwhites live, let's get 'em" would be intended to result in imminent lawless action. That you can punish.
jfs.bsky.social
Again, unanimous decision. They stuck with the past 100 years of 1A analysis that "Congress shall make no law" means Congress shall make no law. You can punish arson. You can punish trespassing. You just can't punish someone for being a racist asshole*.

Expanding the court until it changes its views on the First Amendment is unlikely to pay off. Among other things, liberals value the First Amendment too. Consider RAV v St. Paul. The Supreme court unanimously struck down a law criminalizing *cross burning*.
jfs.bsky.social
For example, I have a lot of beets. I was thinking of making a beet cake. It's a thing. Cream cheese frosting. That seems like a much better way to spend my afternoon than taunting the alt-right.
jfs.bsky.social
I mean, I could go on Twitter and find MAGA accounts and say things like "Trump got covid and looked sooo scared hahahahaha loser" and post pictures of my vaccination records. I guess that would be owning the rights, but why would I want to do such a thing?
jfs.bsky.social
What does he get out of it, though? I can understand botfarms that are just spreading misinformation or creating conflict. It's dumb but cheap. This seems like a real person spending his time typing this stuff. Does it give him a high?

Laugh if you will, but sometimes those consultants earn their fees simply by stopping the client from doing something stupid. The correct answer might well have been "just drop the +, my dudes, it's confusing. Just focus on Apple and TV and stop trying to be cute"

I unironically love this shit, the process is very funny to me

“after months of extensive work we have removed one (1) character from your logo. that will be eleven million dollars please.”

It's their 'vibrant new identity'

In any case, relying on Schenck is misplaced. The new standard is much higher. Some speech can be deemed dangerous, but only if it's likely to result in imminent lawlessness. Keyword is "imminent". Not contributing to some future possible harm.

Schenck v. United States - Wikipedia

jfs.bsky.social
That case was overruled by Brandenburg, but that hasn't stopped other states from using that logic. Trump wants to jail anyone who burns a flag or identifies as Antifa because some ideas are just dangerous to society. That's the standard you're proposing we rely upon.
jfs.bsky.social
Exactly! The court in Schenck said that allowing a person to speak out against the draft is like shouting fire in a crowded theatre, and such speech is too dangerous to allow to be said in public. That's what you want?

Then there’s the “spike protein” gibberish. Yes, viral protein in the body is not good. Guess what else results in spike proteins? The virus itself. I’d rather have a little fake virus in my upper harm than real virus in my lungs.
