Woke up at 3 am scratching my hands after dreaming about scratching my hands because my first eczema flare-up of the autumn is a nasty one. Wound up having to get into my spouse’s stock of antihistamines to get some relief to find him contending with insomnia. What a pair we are. 😔

I wrote a few thousand words of a Veilguard fight end AU where Iris jumps through the tear to be with Solas after Rook fights and stabs him. It’s meant to be a story about how a corrupted Solas corrupts Iris but I’m not sure if I’ll ever finish it because it’s so bleak.

“You took me to Crestwood intending to tell me the truth, but could not abandon your duty, and so you broke both of our hearts instead,” she says softly. “This wasn’t how it was supposed to go - I did not agree to violence. I never would have allowed for it had it been my decision to make, but I am here, walking the <em>dinan’shiral</em> with you.” Cautiously, she kneels down next to him and pulls at his arm, turning him onto his back while he groans at the movement. The dagger remains embedded in his chest and she pulls out her own dagger and begins cutting away at the straps holding the chestpiece in place. “I’m no surgeon so I am going to need you to help me out.”

“Or I could simply allow this to play out,” he says, eyes glazed over. “This is but one way to achieve my goal.”

“Then you would never have the opportunity to bury this dagger in Rook’s own chest. You would leave me alone in this prison but if you survive, vengeance remains open to you.”

Love may not be enough to save him but spite can be a powerful motivator. She continues to cut through the straps and leather of Solas’ armour, careful not to jostle the dagger while he thinks. “Promise me the opportunity to wet my blade with Rook’s blood.”

“I swear it,” she says, stomach twisting, eyes stinging at the realization that now he will survive for vengeance but not for her alone. She imagines a medical supply cabinet and the Fade summons, not a cabinet but a chest full of bandages, ointments, healing potions, lyrium potions, painkillers and surgical tools. Solas’ hand is shaking like a leaf and soaked with his own blood, but he reaches for her own hand, guiding it to the hilt of the blade.

fiction is a safe space to think of unsafe things

if you feel it's messing you up, step away. don't assume it's messing everyone up and you need to eradicate it because you caught a case of the feel-bads from something. go sit with that and think about why instead of pissing in everyone else's cheerios.

We rescued Shitty Little Cat near a Chinese restaurant when we were overseas & we think she’d been living off leftovers for awhile. She’s very good about not begging for food - unless we bring home Chinese food. Tonight I was packing up and she was whining up a storm because I wasn’t sharing. 😂
