Diane Keaton could have directed Annie Hall but Woody Allen could NEVER have directed the music video for Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth"

No amount of big budget trailers can pique my interest like a poster for this stuff.

"Saying the quiet part out loud doesn’t make it brave; it makes it bleak. It teaches [...] campaigners that integrity is a liability and that reputational violence is a sign of savvy. It tells the public that truth is optional, empathy expendable, and that politics is just performance warfare."

It’s certainly the George album I reach for most. Even if Older is a more cohesive statement, there’s something about the way he bares his soul on LWP that really resonates with me. I remember your piece, it was a vivid snapshot of a fraught time and a suddenly changed world and I really liked it.

This song is cool again with Gen Z thanks to them discovering it through David Lynch, there’s a real unironic love for it #TOTP

Donington Monsters of Rock festival had only happened a few weeks earlier, and I suspect a few releases were timed to coincide with it - Megadeth, AC/DC, Thunder etc.

Traditional wisdom says that 1990 pop took a bit of a nosedive in the second half of the year, but this is an absolutely cracking Top 40 all in all #TOTP

'We've both given up smoking cos it's fatal/So whose matches are those?' - one of the great lines in pop. #totp

Love all these songs individually, but this megamix is so much less than the sum of its parts #TOTP

So Hard, aka the only really commercially viable single from Behaviour. Still my favourite PSB album, grown-up melancholic pop at its absolute best #TOTP

Also the follow-up Are You Dreaming is probably the funniest record ever made. #TOTP

Younger me was OBSESSED with I Can’t Stand It, he thought it was the coolest thing ever. Probably still does #TOTP

I bloody love 1990. I’m probably gonna be overly generous to some of this but I don’t care, this is MY era #TOTP

In fairness to Simon, they are still married after nearly 40 years #TOTP

Never much cared for True Blue I’m afraid, but then again, I never liked synthy 80s approximations of girl group records (e.g. Frankie by Sister Sledge) #TOTP

Indeed it is. Hugely dispiriting viewing. A whole generation sitting idly by waiting for Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley to give pop a kick up the backside.

We could’ve had Suburbia??? #TOTP

There’s “going through the motions” and then there’s these Paul Young and Howard Jones performances. This was a whole era of pop on its knees waiting for death. #TOTP
