My novel, The Subtle Art of Folding Space, has a cover!
Read about repairing physics, unreasonable parental expectations, and great Taiwanese food! Out on April 7, 2026. Pre-order now: t.co/0nz8JuNhwf
Art credits: Jacket art by Weston Wei, Jacket Design by Katie Klimowicz.
Cover of The Subtle Art of Folding Space, coming April 7, 2026
Four sets of bamboo steamers going from the top of the cover to the bottom. The top one holds steamed bao. The contents of each steamer below it get progressively more surreal. One has bao with the universe as a filling. The next steamer below it has planets. The last steamer is filled with gear works. Two hands holding red chopsticks reach for the first and third steamer. The Subtle Art of Folding Space, is the exhilarating debut science fiction novel from Nebula and Hugo-winning author John Chu channels unhinged physics, generational trauma, and the comfort of really good dim sum. This isn't your usual jaunt through quantum physics.
Ellie's universe, and this one, is falling apart. Her ailing mother is in a coma; her sister, Chris, accuses her of being insufficiently Taiwanese between assassination attempts; and a shadowy cabal of engineers is trying to hijack the skunkworks, the machinery that keeps the physics of each universe working the way it's supposed to.
Daniel, Ellie's cousin, has found an illicit device in the skunkworks-one that keeps Ellie's comatose mother alive while also creating destabilizing bugs in the physics of this universe. It's not a good day.
If she can confront her mother's legacy and overcome her family's generational trauma, she just might find a way to preserve the skunkworks and reconcile with her sister...but digging into her family's past is thornier than it seems, and the secrets she uncovers will force Ellie to choose between her family and the universe itself.

Most of these people are deeply trained, or at least highly educated, in humanities. Knowing isn’t being.

Not gonna link the troll but Bari Weiss clearly represents “thought police” more than 100,000 Bluesky leftists scolding you for writing a defense of Weiss ever will, and ignoring that reality is clearly designed to curry the favor of thought police. Also she’s not reliable on anything, it is clear that 1 reason she is acting the way she is, not just on Israel, these days is because she was not given the blessings or the job offers from the trump White House in the past year that she wanted
nberlat.bsky.social
saw someone arguing that MTG's anti Israel noises suggest that she's a more reliable moral voice longterm than most centrist Ds, and...like, people really need to acknowledge just how antisemitic she is and what role that plays in her approach to Israel policy. 1

I have never, ever heard a reader say their problem is too few books on the market.

I’ve heard MANY say there are so many that it’s hard to find *quality* reads, which is why they’re loyal to certain authors + publishers.

This “business” is solving a problem that doesn’t exist, using stolen work
marcorinaldi.bsky.social
Why? Who is this meant to be good for? Nobody wants your shit AI books, never mind 8,000 in a year. Just a terrible idea and a horrible road the publishing industry is heading down.
Bookseller article with the headline "New publisher Spines aims to 'disrupt' industry by using AI to publish 8,000 books in 2025 alone" 🤮🤮🤮

if we are going to have a supreme court that is as powerful as it is, i basically think justices should be forbidden from public comment on their work as well as any supplemental source of income while they are on the bench. (they should also ride circuit again but that's a bit separate.)
andycraig.bsky.social
The substance of what she's saying is bad and unconvincing, but more fundamentally, I really don't think Supreme Court justices should be going on book tours where they publicly comment on their work and respond to criticism of it. Either put it in a written opinion or hold your peace.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Former Presidents consistently talk about the difficulty of getting good information as President, how everyone has an agenda, is telling them what they want to hear, etc.

Most Presidents make some effort to mitigate that well-known problem, but Trump's like "moar bubble, I want only bubble."

For my piece today at @zeteo.com i wanted to truly underscore how punishingly stupid american fascism is now. Like, my original proposed headline for this was:

Trump’s Addiction to Watching Fox Is Killing American Democracy
Our country is falling apart because one old man, Trump advisers and former administration officials say, won’t stop ‘yelling’ at his TV.

There's a local right wing show on KSLM in Salem, OR called Noncompliant America. KSLM broadcasts Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Charlie Kirk's show, etc. This week's show featured this "small gov't" guy saying "bring all of the troops home," right after saying "send the troops to here to Oregon!"

Makes you wonder. And so we don't want wars. We want to pull out of everything.
I think all the troops should come home to the United States, maybe leave a couple behind elsewhere. But we don't need to be involved fighting for other countries like Ukraine either. We don't need to be defending them.
We don't need to be there. I say we pull out completely, and let's get out of these wars, and let's save some money. Let's be fiscally responsible.
Let's pay for the taxes that are supposed to be used on the American people, and stop giving it to all these NGOs that are thwarting and undermining Western civilization all over the world. Let's start focusing on the people, not other countries. That's what we need to do.

Well, it really is a war zone in the sense that you look at the lawfare that's happening between the judges and the governor that's vowing to fight Trump in every way. And he's not violating his constitutional right. He's protecting federal buildings.
He's not sending in the National Guard to take over the city, which I personally believe he should. And it may or may not happen because Portland is an Antifa stronghold. There's a guy, there's a video I posted on my ex earlier this week.
