No jardim/baldio da Praça de Espanha vi há pouco uma bela ratazana (adjectivo sem ironia, era uma lustrosa ratazana) a arrastar uma maçã.

E nem foi a coisa mais insólita que vi no baldio da Praça de Espanha, pois estavam lá uns monárquicos a tirar fotos com a "bandeira" da dita "causa real".

I love science fiction. The vast majority of the films I watch on movie theatres are science fiction (and fantasy). Today I went to the movies to watch a rerun of "Amélie"; watch "Tron: Ares" never for a moment crossed my mind.

I'll never understand why an average 80s film spawned a franchise.

I'm perplexed at watching pundits in the trades struggling to explain Tron Ares' disappointing opening.

Was it covid? Do people just not like science fiction? etc. etc.

The main reason is pretty obvious: Tron isn't a popular franchise. Nobody's interested in nostalgia for a failed 1980s project.

I'll buy Lorwyn cards for sure, although I'm already a little disapponted with the set (no Goblins EDH deck, and that serialised Rebecca Guay card...), but after that there'll be nothing for me all year.

Not complaining: I'll have more money for books and records. But it's still a little sad.

O meu pequeno blog faz hoje dois anos. Tem sido divertido escrevê-lo, mesmo (sobretudo?) nestes tempos em que os blogues praticamente desapareceram do espaço público, engolidos pela voragem algorítmica das redes, e só restam mesmo os aficcionados. Enfim, continuemos.

This, this, this. Whatever I'm plan to write only takes shape when I start to write it. What I write is mostly an irrelevant blog, and yet it's something that I would never outsource. I don't want to have written my blog, irrelevant though it may be; I want to write it. That's the fun part.

I think the killer argument against relying upon AI to write is the massive amount of thinking and concept-welding that goes on for me (and I assume most everyone else) during the *process* of writing something - it’s a cognitive process and I know I’d actively get stupider if I skipped it

I also just wonder if any of these people have ever really appreciated the value added in going through the experience of something like this. The fact that it changes you to engage with and puzzle over your own work, that you're not a content printer that just needs juicing to go faster.

I would love to see a film or short TV show adapting "The Lathe of Heaven".

(and yes, I'm aware that there is an adaptation, and apparently it isn't bad? but I haven't yet seen it, and it's not something I'll find in my far away country)

Não sei quando voltarei a mudar de casa (até porque nas circunstâncias actuais...). Mas sei que a próxima casa terá necessariamente de ter espaço para os livros. E que mudar todos os livros que temos aqui vai dar uma trabalheira desgraçada.

Enfim, não vale a pena sofrer por antecipação, imagino.

@decassette.bsky.social "World Heist" is incredible. It's quite the feat to imagine a world (or worlds) that vast, and then tell a story so self-contained. It's so well done.

Hoje no blogue, "World Heist" de Linnea Sterte: uma banda desenhada lindíssima e muito imaginativo, a contar uma história pequena mas muito intrigante em mundos de uma dimensão muito mais vasta do que as suas breves 80 páginas. Recomendo mesmo muito, se o conseguirem encontrar.
