Disagree. There is never a bad time to discuss the monarchy. And when one of the Royal family is in the middle of a sex abuse scandal, it is a brilliant time to discuss the monarchy.
It's no less plausible than other changes which don't number among most people's priorities. You managed to have a referendum on marriage equality, despite it affecting only a small minority.
I don't think it needs to be directly elected. It should be a boring position. It's the political leadership that should be inspiring people to vote for them. A president shouldn't be partisan or chasing votes.
Why so you think these are such insurmountable problems? Yes, obviously if you change the method of appointment you need to agree a new method of appointment. Why should that be where we all give up?
That is such a stupid reply. At best the only tourism revenue that can tenuously be attributed to the royals comes from people visiting the palaces. The Versailles example shows that royal palaces function perfectly well as tourist attractions without royal families.
