Some people get very uppity when you criticise their favourite fairy story. 🙄
It wouldn't be so dissimilar to the current counsellors of state, except that they wouldn't be subject to the monarch.
Every accusation is a confession pal.
You lost the argument chap.
Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.
Yeah it matters because now he has a cosy private chat with the PM every week. And two of my three examples were examples of the political power of his mother, which she did use while monarch
To say they have no political power is a nonsense.
Was this before or after he wrote his infamous spider letters to members of government? Was it before or after his mum had draft laws changed to accommodate her personal financial interests? Was it before after she warned us to "think carefully" before the Brexit referendum?
I think I'd like to see leading people from the arts, sciences, commerce, sport etc - people with unblemished records - come together to appoint someone (or better still a commission representing all four nations).
You realise surely that your pathetic attempt to talk down to me only makes you look small? And that assuming that everyone who disagrees with you must be angry and emotional is infantile?
That's not the only plus. They also get to choose whether to do it. They don't spend their entire life from cradle to grave with relentless media attention. They don't come with a family if dozens of useless hangers on.
I'd rather see an appointments commission drawn from leaders in all areas of our national life. Electing the position would give it a level of ego it doesn't need.
They don't usually come with perverted siblings hanging around the upper echelons of the state for decades at a time.
Prime Minister Thatcher was head of government anyway so it wouldn't make any difference.
"loved" is such a silly word to use for someone who is a complete stranger.
Well the whole point of a ceremonial position is that it doesn't come with much power. But you could dilute it further by making it a presidential council of four.

Besides which, Edward VIII was a Nazi sympathiser so we'd be no worse off in that respect.
Why should any of us join you in wanting to make it work? I don't want monarchy to work. I want it to be abolished.
Oh because what worked in the 1650s is obviously really useful to guide how we should organise society in the 21st century.
Well I can't disagree with you there
He could have done what Harry has done and realised that there was no future in hanging around like a bad smell.
I'm concerned about having the literal figureheads of the aristocrat class in a position which puts them (and everyone like them) beyond scrutiny and beyond political criticism. The Royal family can't even be discussed in parliament by convention.
Oh piffle. He's not had a chance at accession to the throne since the 1980s. He's been a hanger-on for over 40 years.
Yes. Yes it is.

You know what also consumes time and money? A parasitical family of talentless aristocrats holding a permanent monopoly on the highest status in the land. It is a terrible message to send that status is a birthright not the result of effort and accomplishment.
Yeah your lack of imagination on this topic seems somehow wilful to me.

Obviously it would work similarly to the current council of state, with one being notional leader at any given time.
